Coyote Hunting question

I have never done much serious coyote hunting, however this year I will have access to some pretty decent private land. I was wondering what folks do with the intact carcasses if they do not intend to skin/pelt the animal? I have zero interest in the pelt and my hunting is strictly motivated by predator control for some grateful land owners. Let me know your thoughts,

I learned how to skin the pelt and kept my first as a trophy.... beyond that I would put an add up on kijiji.... I found a guy that said he would give me ten bucks a yote... unskinned.... I never take his money... just glad to do what you want to do an dthin them out.... but it is nice to know it goes to use....
 
More like crow bait. Coyotes don't really seam to eat there own. Infact I find it deturs them from the area.

The Kijiji idea was a good one.

But ya honestly man, you can just toss them aside. Most places like here in Alberta if it's shot on private land you are not obligated to keep the furr.
 
I guess my concern is that carcasses aren't going to decompose much in the snow. I don't want to litter the property with dead dogs. Maybe I'll take and dispose of them properly, or find someone who is interested in the pelt. Either way, I won't be skinning anything at home,

No, they won't. Especially the near-mythical southern Ontarian wolf.

Don't waste, whatever you do, those pelts are valuable and it's a disgusting waste dumping them. Skinning is ridiculously easy, coyotes peel very easily, skin, freeze, and sell. Last winter they were worth $30-40 up here. If you can't there's a lot of guys who can, and put someone who'll use the pelts on the task.

Eliminating problem animals off of a landowners property is not wasting. I have zero interest in the pelt, that is not to say that I won't try to find someone who might be, but failing that I won't be deterred from hunting them. I will educate myself on the legality of leaving the carcass, and act accordingly. As stated, my motives are two fold, it looks like fun hunting and I am helping land owners that want them gone.

If they are full of mange or otherwise not suitable for good fur, as in they dont have a good winter pelt. Dont give a second thought to throwing them in a pit with the farmers other dead animals.

When I inquired about people wanting pelts I was told there was no interest for anything shot outside of the December though February months. YMMV. That was what I was told locally anyway.
 
That and bullet holes in general lower the value of a pelt.

Most times it is easy to find a trapper or someone willing to take them off ur hands. Just a nice thing to do.

I dont know why I am responding.........but

Yes wolves will clean up a coyote carcass overnight. :HR:

In AB not ontario you are not required to salvage a yote harvested on private land. d:h:

How the heck do you know what I do with coyotes?

If they are prime or viable they go to a registered trapper.

If they are shot in july or opened up they are........... just dead I guess. :):)
 
I dumped 2 mangy lookin ones last winter. Shot one the other stood there looking at his dead buddy so I popped him. 2 days later both were just a few bones scattered around hips and vertebrae and skulls. Other animals need to eat. Coyote numbers need to be controlled. They wiped out the 2 fox families on my farm and wiped out the wild turkeys as well as taking 2 fawns and a #### load of my bunnies not to mention 3 pet ducks. There are 2 coyotes left I see every once in a while. They will not make it thru the winter
 
Trappers pay money, skinned or not.
Better then letting them goto waste, and helps another fellow with his livelihood.
 
Check with your provincial trappers association.
Local Taxidermists
Hunt clubs with youth programs or trapping courses
Learn to skin ans sell the hides through the NAFA.
Any standard jerky recipe will work on the meat.
Head shots mean less meat loss. Jerky makes excellent holiday gifts for the inlaws, ex employees and bosses.
