Coyote Hunting Rigs

No one is freaking out. It just looks plain ugly is all. It looks a bit better with the scope obj not taped to the rifle from the first pics but ugly all the same. I personally don't care but if you are going to post a pic of a rifle all taped up with awful looking tape don't be surprised if a bunch of ppl say it looks terrible. For all the guys stating that it is his rifle and blah blah blah. Thanks for stating the obvious, it is quite obvious that he is soliciting opinions or he wouldn't have posted that pic.

So, you agree it's not pretty; it didn't shoot ( although I don't understand how what you described can relate to the tape actually, but..); you are making the effort again.

I admit I have no legitimate objection; I just see no reason to bother. Soooooo ..... Why?

Because if you read the whole thread....he had the tape wrapped around the barrel and stock. Not exactly free floated. Could affect accuracy. thats how it relates

This. Someone mentioned it earlier in the thread and when I took it out shooting today it was shooting worth crap. Since the barrel is free-floating from the stock once again it should shoot fine once again.
The tape didn't mark the finish, or the stock which is a thumbs-up.

It is a Savage model 10 precision carbine in 223. It has a 20" barrel on it

How do you like the weight/balance? I have had a few Savages over the years and have found them to be very accurate rifles and was thinking of building a 20 VarTarg on a target action, or maybe getting a Gaillard barrel for a Carbine. I'll stick with the 20" barrel either way because it's too ###y.

Its a fairly heavy setup, but balanced well. If i remember right, Deadmeat weighed it at around 11.5 pounds. a lot heavier than it looks.

I do a lot of hiking/snow shoeing in to were I set up to call I have gotten rid of heavy rifles due to their weight one was a Rem 700P the other was a Mini 14 Target both in 223

Heaviest rifle I pack for any kind of hunting now is max 9.5lbs...

For those of you using 22-250's, what are your favourite loads. I am just getting into coyote hunting.

I am using a Sako AV, so anyone with some suggestions that would be great!

34grs IMR3031 + 52gr Speer HP's = 3700fps (my favorite load for my Sako 85 Grey Wolf)
36grs IMR4064 + any 55gr bullet = 3660fps
35grs IMR4063 + 60gr Sierra HP Varminter = 3550fps

WOW!!!! That is a sweet rig. Classic calibre / action / wood. I'm running a .223, but this year I am bound and determined to smack a yote with a sidelock .50.

Remington 700 in .223.
It did a fabulous job on groundhogs with 45gr. bullets, might try 55gr. on coyotes this year.
