coyote hunting specific question

yesterday I went to my father in law sugar shack and while walking his land I noticed some very fresh coyote footprints. I could tell they were fresh because we had a light snow on Thursday that covered the very hard snow crust. The snow crush is so hard that I can walk on it without busting it, even with my fat ass a 180 lbs.

While walking I discovered 2 sites where the coyote enjoyed their kill. Bit of blood, urine and hair was left along with something frozen that ressembled a deer eye.

Im hoping they are still in the area and will try to call them tomorrow. My question would be:

1- What call would make sense at this time of the year knowing the snow crush is hard and we are hunting on a sugar shack land using a fox pro?

2- how long do I need to call before muting the call and wait?

Few weekends ago I was out, set up first thing in the morning, let adult cottontail play on full blast. At 7min dog came running in.

Moved to another spot, set up, same call, 3 dogs came running in at 9 min

Location 3, same setup, dog came in at 3 minutes.

Don't keep muting the call, let it play, if nothing shows up they aren't within earshot and try somewhere else.
 
Sounds good. Will try this out. I will have 3 spots at least, first on the road leading to the shack, 300y view, second in the woods, tighter space and third up in the deer stand
 
What sound you play is a lot less important compared to how/where you setup. Use the wind to your advantage and get in quietly. Try to get a good view of the downwind side as they will likely circle that way. I usually go with moderate sound at first to not blow em out of the country if they are close.
 
Set up according to the wind. If the coyotes smell you and then hear the call, you will have educated them , and they will be very difficult to call in later. Start with low volume on the call, and increase the volume in steps over time. Do not mute the call, let it play. A visual attractant such as a moving tail helps as well.
 
if theres still meat at those kill sights go at first light and don't call just be in a good position, shoot, wait, I've taken 6 this way in one sit. all the dogs wont come in at once
 
Well that was unsuccessful.

We set up at 4 different locations and saw nothing. Maybe we are not positioning correctly. Not sure how far from the call and decoy we should positikn ourselves.

Being quiet was hard with the hard snow crush breaking under our feet.
