Coyote hunting tips?

I've never bothered with yotes' in the past, but some newly aquired deer hunting land in southern Ontario is littered with them.

What does is take to be a sucessful coyote hunter. Any hunting strategies, tips would be appreciated.
 
1. Always use the wind to your advantage. Either set up with the wind in your face or set up with a cross wind. That way they can't smell you.

2. If you don't care about saving the fur , use your favorite deer gun to hunt them. The more shooting you do with it the more familar you become with it.

3. Actually find Randy Anderson's first video (Calling All Coyotes) and watch it a few times. It offers tons of coyote hunting tips and is also a good watch too.

4. Don't give up. If you go out calling and don't call anything in, don't worry about it. Keep trying. They might not be in the area or whatever. Persistance pays off.

There's alot more tips I can give , it's just that I can't think of them right now.
 
your best chance at calling one in, is your first time in the area. Overcalling the area will just educate the coyotes and make them smart to your ways, and they'll become near uncallable. Try a bait then
 
Good tips boys...keep em' coming. Last Saturay, our first attempt was a learning experience in itself. We found the remains of a small deer, and the sites of three rabbit? kills? We also found an area where they bed down.

Do coyotes bed in the same area day after day?

When do the #####es come into heat? After following some tracks for a bit we noticed the occasional drop of blood? Wounded or coming into "season"? Can ###ual attractants be used?

Is coyote hunting a dawn and dusk thing, or can you call / bait mid-day?

###ual attractants??? if you mean howling, yes!. I would bet the yotes are beginning thier breeding season down there.

Blood in a yote track isnt all that uncommon. Sometimes yotes scrape their wangs while travelling on crusty snow and pucnhing through all the time or fence crossings. Sore feet, fights all kids of thing cause blood in the trail of a yote.

Winter magic is another good DVD.
 
They should be mating now or very soon around here, I'm not sure when they mate out east though. They do become territorial, so the blood you saw could be from a fight or from a female in heat.
As for bedding down in the same area , the only reason I can guess they'd stick around one area for very long is food. Coyotes are just walking stomachs with fur and legs. So if you know there's lots of food around chances are they'll be in the area until it's gone. So take advantage of it while you can.
You can call coyotes all day long, but mornings and dusk are sometimes better.
If you're gonna bait them , try dead hogs. They work AWESOME!:eek:
