So who has been out and how has it been going. My brother and I are having fun. We only got three so far but like I said, we are having fun. I missed two at 20 yards and got two at 150 to 200 yards.

I have been out calling a few times, maybe half a dozen or so. I shot two but both were drive bys. One was about 2km from my house on my way home and the other was about 200 yds from town on my way to my parents home.

I missed too, the first one I ended up getting on my second shot at about 150-175yds and the seond one ran about 5 steps and I stopped her with a howl at 80yds.

Funny thing, with the second dog, I was turning on to my road and saw her there, so I backed up and went 50 yds to another road and scooted up 200yds (to be a legal distance from the homes in the area) this was at 1:00 in the afternoon. I was behind a row of trees, reaching for my call to see if i could lure her in (I was about 300-400 yds from where I spotted her) next thing I see her coming towards me, so I left the call in the car and hopped out. By the time I loaded up and got off the road, she was less than 75 yd away, I missed with an offhand shot and the barked to stop her and bang, she was down.

Both dogs that I got this year were barked at, works amazingly well!

i HOPE YOU GUYS LISTEN TO THIS , BUT i WANT TO SAY HOW I ate road hunters . people shooting from cars , trucks . And it seem that they fire when they either don`t have promission or even to witch what direction is safe to shoot . I had the miss fortune to be in vited on a hunt , I WONT SAY WHO WHAT WHEN AND WHY . i TOLD THEM MY IDEA OF HUTNING FOR ME IS GETTING OUT AND LOOKING OUTSIDE OF THE TRUCK . nEVER THE LEAST WE DROVE OVER HELL AND BACK TO END THIS HORRIBLE TRIP . i JUST CAN`T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HUNTING , AND WHY IT IS GOING TO THE DOG . sHOOTING FROM THE ROAD IS ILLEGAL IN ABERTA .

Wow, take the mitts off when you are typing . He said he got out of the truck and besides its PEI they are all related on that sand dune LOL.

Your opinion does not bother me...

I prefer the traditional way to hunt but I do keep the gun ready when travelling and when legal will take a shot from the road. ESPECIALLY COYOTES who are an invasive species that has naturalized themselves only 25 years ago on PEI. In fact the last Coyote, I took to show the farmer that afternoon and he was very excited about the kill!
Shooting froma road on PEI is perfectly legal (except for migratory birds) I will never shoot from my truck though, did it once and felt guilty (as I was guilty) ever since.

When deer hunting, which for me involves going to another province, I will usally road hunt just one day as it gives me an opportunity to see new country, I have never seen a buck from the road however.

On one bear hunt though, we saw 11 bears and 1 car in 2 hours.

We have 19 coyotes to date and only 12 made it onto the board because of mange. We have no dogs and we do not use callers, we walk them out. Some of our older hunters can not walk far because of health so they watch from the vehicle and walk off the road to shoot making it legal in Ontario.
When I leave my house in the city I am using my vehicle for hunting and when I get to the country and see a coyote I will walk off the road as required by law and try to shoot it. Why is this any different than using a boat or ATV's for hunting? We all bend the rules and if you say you never break the law than I would have to call you a liar.

Get out the nails and the cross!

Anyhow.. we went out on the weekend and we saw quite a few but only had a shot at two, both within 200 yards.

The first, we set up in an old farm yard and set up the call. Within 2 minutes the dog came running in like a "scalded cat". Pow!

The second we set up in a old cattle run in a pasture, turned on the call and all of the sudden it appeared to our left... just standing there looking at us. Pow!

The rest, probably 5 or 6, just stood at 600 yards or further looking at us. I thought we were cammed up pretty well, but then again...

Had a few eh!!! ;) That's OK, been there...done that. :D

I got a couple yotees this year.....I hate people who hate other people....lol, j/k.....relax man. Unsafe shooting and shooting on private property is one thing, and I am not a truck hunter, but hey, to each his own. I have a couple of buddies who truck hunt, don't group them all together as bad hunters. No different than the anti's thinking all gun owners are bad by the actions of a few. Not everyone who is a truck hunter is a bad hunter, just lazy. ;)

Hey now... be nice.

Almost have my gun ready for coyotes, just need the license and a hammer spur extension. It'll be my first year.

Wow! All I wanted to do was chat about coyote hunting, not have everyone shoot each other down! Does anyone want to talk about coyote hunting?

Since the new year, shoot 2 missed one. Going out again Saturday (and possibly Sunday). Depends how cranky the wife gets about my abscence. I love this predator calling thing. It is fast approaching deer season as one of my favorite activities. They are really brazen, coming in hard in fast.

I called one in this last Sunday using my Foxpro FX3 e-caller and a Jack in the Box decoy.

Shot it at 45 yards this was the most exciting setup I have ever had the action was so fast with the coyote running straight into the decoy spinning and running back out as fast as it could...

If you haven't tried a decoy yet I would highly recommend it they take the attention of the predator off of you and you get to witness some of the most awesome fast action ever...
