coyote hunting

You my friend obviously don't live in Kanada. 5* rounds are the legal limit in all semi-auto firearms in Kanada.

*M1 Garand is the only exception I am aware of.

Not all semi-auto firearms. The five round limit is applicable to semi-auto long guns, which are in centrefire calibres with detachable magazines.

I don't think you meant to be talking about handguns or .22 rimfires, but that is how confusion arises. And the M1 Garand is the only example I can think of, too, but I'm told the exemption is dependent on the magazine not being detachable. Perhaps one of us could look that up in the actual regulations.

firsttimer, sorry, I see your in New Brunswick! I have never hunted there, I thought you were in Alberta.......!? Sorry about that...if your ever out in YYC, send me a PM. I'll take you out to one of our 'funnels'.

.243 with lighter weight bullets will work fine for coyote, especially at longer ranges, and is a great choice if its really windy. Hard on fur though.

I primarily use a 22-250.

.243 is a bit heavy if you are hunting them for the pelts or for a mount. But if you are not worried about sewing up fist sized holes go for it. A 55gr Nosler BST out of my .243 Ruger M77 will almost cut them in two if you hit them high; you have to be pretty careful with shot placement. I use .223 on the island as we are limited to .22 caliber.

hounds is the most productive and most fun in my opinion. Calling is fun too, just don't watch TOO many coyote hunting videos. They will make you loose your motivation quick. Looks like they see or kill a coyote every stand, its about 20-30 stands before I see a coyote, let alone kill one. Although I've called in 5 coyotes in 6 stands while turkey hunting, they came in full bore.

they are extremely smart, 90% of the time circle downwind and Eastern coyotes are a lot harder to kill then western ones, or the ones in the states. Don't ask me why but they don't come running full bore to the call like they do on t.v, most of the time anyways. Maybe its just me, I dunno LOL

i would like to start hunting coyote but not sure how to hunt them, ive asked around locally and 95% of the people say its luck to shoot coyote, on the other hand their was an old guy that told me he has killed meny coyotes with a call.

well i guess my question is what is the best way to hunt them and what kind of call was that old fellow talking about.

thanks

Contact this guy for some tipps

He used to have a coyote problem....not anymore!

My FoxPro is awesome gives me another option especially when I don't want to use a hand call or hand calling isn't working.

Being able to sit 50 to 100 yards away from the call is also an added bonus when the coyotes aren't responding.
