The other day I was thinking wow with this many rabbits in town I am suprized there are no coyotes. Well sure enough this morning driving my son to school there was one about a block from the school. As he came trotting up I saw he was wearing an electronic collar and an ear tag. I called the wildlife office they already knew he was there. I was wondering if you were out in the bush do you ever see that when hunting or is it because he was in town. Is there any laws or proceedure you have to follow if you shot this guy (out of town on your own farm lets say) I have never see this before.

You should of asked the wildlife office when you had them on the phone because I don't know, but an interesting question.

Not sure how big your area is, but what I'm wondering is they knew the coyote was a block away from the school and weren't doing anything about it.

here in Ont if you shoot a collared or tagged animale or bird .you call the MNR and let them know where&when details

I have four rabbits that frequent the parking lot of my building. I'm just north of Whyte Ave and a few blocks off the river valley.

I've toyed with the idea of trying to call a coyote in just to see if there's one out there. While he's here, he could eat the rabbits.

I have seen 3 run up my street this year I ran out the door and lip squeaked the one and it sat at the end of the street looking at me for a good 2-3min. I live right in town but behind me is a wooded area. I have never seen them in town before but have seen a number of foxes.

Coyotes in town aren't unusual any more. They're quite happy living in the assorted ravines and river valley's running through downtown TO. Occasionally dining on wee dogs and cats. Saw one, 20 some years ago, hunting in a field, in downtown Mississauga. Didn't care in the least about the rush hour traffic.
Never seen anything wearing a collar. Like dumbdawg says, you call the MNR. Although I suspect they'd rather you didn't shoot one with a collar. Time and money to put it on and losing the research data. No crime if you do shoot one though.

You are so right about that. I am in the middle of town and have had a pack of 6 or more living in the small back patch of woods for about 15 years now.
Have not seen a stray cat in years;)
