.223 rem is a good round to punch a hole in a coyote.

yeah i use 223 for yotes as well, but you can use shotgun... not as good as 223 or 22 250 etc though

Thanks. I already have a shotgun, and I have seen several coyotes in shotgun range on the road to my cabin. I have a kid in kindergarten who tags along with me, and coyotes often stalk small children for food.

When I have to use a shotgun, I prefer plated #4 buckshot for coyotes, but 00 will also work, just less pellets.

X2, I've got some #4 buck, patterns minute of coyote out of the full choke, even at up to 75 yards.

Guys around here use #4buck in the winter when chasing with dogs etc. More pellets in the air =better chance of hitting.

Shotgun with buck shot for night in the front yard or 30-30 for day. Kinda like practicing for deer season.

I use 3" #4 buck out of an 18.5" cyl barrel when they are too close for the 22-250. Its got plenty of pattern to 20-30 yds. I've also used 3" #1 in my 26" 20ga w/ mod choke a few times at under 30yds
