Hi all.

Sorry if this has been answered before, I did a search and couldn't find anything.

I live in Ontario and the area we hunt requires some Coyote management. I have heard that the pelts can be sold if they are in good condition, can anyone comment on what the process is to harvest, prepare and sell a pelt?

Cheers!

Steve

This time of the year the pelts will almost be worth nothing other then for small things like hair for fishing lures etc. winter months are best for pelts.

to sell pelts you will need a license from the mnr if I am correct. Most trappers send them to the auction house.. Prices of pelts very on their colour and condition

I beleve you do not need a trappers licence to sell pelts you legally harvested with a hunting licence. However as Mattones said its only worth it in the winter when the fur is prime. To sell the pelts you need to case skin the coyote, flesh it then board it. There is lots of resources on the net that can help you with that. You can sell the pelts at auction houses in North bay or toronto. theres a lot of work involved but it can be rewarding. Hope this helps cheers goose

With a raw pelt a fur auction is really your only choice to sell as a fur buyers licence is required by the purchaser. If you tan them yourself you can sell them to whoever wants to buy them.

You need to read the hunting regs first. There are seasons for Wiley. Start with Page 29(Game Wildlife and Parts) then go to Page 82-83(Wolf and Coyote regs).
"In general, it is illegal to buy, sell or barter any game wildlife or specially protected wildlife or their parts (including taxidermy mounts). There are some exemptions – please contact your nearest MNRF office to find out what these may be."
You can't shoot 'em and let 'em rot either.
Very much doubt any furrier in TO will buy hides from anywhere but the North American Fur Auctions in TO. Contact 'em and ask. Add the W's. .nafa.ca/wild-fur
You won't be tanning hides in a TO back yard anyway. Stinks really bad.

In Ontario, you can sell the hides under your small game license and tag if in an area that requires tags.

If you are looking for info on skinning, check out varmintal.com it's a great site with tons of info.

I think there is special place in hell for people who say Wile, Yogi and Bullwinkle for coyote, bear and moose.

I hope so :)

Having my trappers licence I'm not concerned, but since your in Ontario I don't know the specific regulations that apply to you.

But this time or year the pelts won't be worth saving.

also the comment on you must preserve the pelt, again might be an Ontraio thing, but if I'm doing animal control of pest, its not hunting, or trapping, and I don't need to save the pelts.

Thanks again everyone. I have been in contact with an auction house who will del the house des.

I'll keep you posted on how that goes after next winter!
