Coyote Rifle caliber

I say 6.5x55 in any light rifle, mine's a t3 lite... shoots light bullets nice and fast. I can shoot beer caps at 100 with 129gr SST's and I know they would KO a coyote. Recoil is mild and you hit it well, it's done.

edit, done without splattering.. my dad got one with a 7mm rem mag when I was a kid and it was f**ked.

Since I am a Swift owner, I have to favor this one.
However, those who suggested the 22-250 are giving you good direction.
That being said, the 222 or 223 will do 95% of all your coyote work

Thanks for all the points of view. Even got a few new calibers to look into. I do have a 7mm rem mag and a 6.5x55 for large game. I know these will adequately kill any coyote however I can always use another rifle

I am a Swift owner to but nothig is better IMO than 243 loaded with 58gr v-max at 3900 fps the Swift and 22-250 are on retierement since i shoot that combo... JP.

.223 has basically the same trajectory as a .270 according to my ballistics calculator. That's plenty of reach for 'yotes. 22-250 will have a barrel that wears out faster and produce a much larger muzzle blast and costs more to shoot.

I'd rather save my money and barrel and get more practice in with a 223.

Or maybe get a 243 so you can use it on larger game such as wolf. The 243 and 22-250 have the same parent case but the larger bullets in the 243 somewhat justify all that extra powder.

If you don't care about the pelt, 300 Win Mag does quiet the job. Ive shot lots with a 30-06 and a few with a 30-06. If I was going to buy a rifle just to shoot coyotes, look at a 243 or 25-06.

I do like to see 100% or better for this task, but that's just my thought's! how about 243 and or 6mm to up it a bit?
