think of building a coyote round for my 270 weatherby mag out of 100 grain Hollow Point Speer Varmint Rifle Bullets imr 7828 powder and federal 215 primers anyone have any thoughts on this open to advice pro/con
 
I've shot a lot of 'yotes, mostly with the Swift and the 6mm Remington.
Never had trouble anchoring them, even way out there.
Your 270 mag should be more than enough medicine to make them DRT.
Trick is to find a light bullet that will shoot well.

I'd shoot the bullet that you use for deer/big game, nothing like knowing your trajectory and rifle. Another plus is you will have a better BC for shots that might be on the long side. If your heart is set on a light bullet then look at the hornady v-max, all the light big caliber v-max have shoot good in any thing I have tried them in, and the look "faster" than those chubby open tipped speers.
 
Wow...that's a lotta rifle for the tiny "yote.

I just use my 243 with 70 Nosler Varmints. Works great!

Where about are you at? I wouldn't mind taking a few out if you are not too far away. We had a bounty on them the last few years...now they be kinda scarce.
 
I hit this one a little low with a 75gr V-Max launched at about 3500fps. 150-200 yard shot.

i am out near ponoka father-in-law farm i know the weatherby mag a bit big but they already took two calfs and i want to turn the bastards inside out at 300 + yards
figured the hollow point would do the trick

I'd pick a better bullet, let's run some numbers and see why.

The speer 100gr hp has a bc of .201, start that bullet with IMR7828 at a Hodgdon max load with a speed of 3650. At 300yards it has 2225ish feet per second and 1100 ftlbs of energy. Looking a 300 yard zero just cause you need to be 3" high at a 100, 4 high at 200 and say if if take a long poke at 500 your drop is around 32" with 1500fps

Even switching to the 110v-max your almost doubling the bullet performance and increasing splat factor. BC is .370 your trajectory is flatter to 300 with almost double the energy and half the wind drift.

The best bang for your buck or splat factor on coyotes with your 270 wby is a 130 gr nosler/Berger/hornady or what ever you choose at 3500fps. I bet it will give better accuracy at the distances you would like to shoot and preform better on game when it gets there.

Not to rain on your parade but don't want to see a guy waste his hard earned $$$ on some thing that doesn't stack up very well.
 
thanks sask hunter thats y i love this forum i just loaded up speer grand slam 130 grain with 68 grains of imr 7828 and thats what the ruger sighted in for so ill take them out and try this weekend ill post my results tnx again
