Coyote scope

I'm thinking of putting together a dedicated coyote rifle and am having a hard time settling on glass. The two scopes I like most so far are:

1.Zeiss conquest v4 4-16x44, zmoa2 reticle
2. Leupold vx5hd 3-15x44, duplex firedot

Both are within $100 of each other, Zeiss would be a little more after ordering a kenton turret. Anybody have experience with either of these? I have different scopes from both and have no complaints.
 
Both are great powers for a dedicated varmint rifle but personally i would lean more towards the leupold the power range is just as versatile for both varmints and deer hunting plus the lower power is a little nicer for those yotes that are on the trot
 
As it happens, I have both of those scopes. Maybe not those reticles but close enough. The VX5 HD is quite impressive.

The V4? Put it this way; I got mine as a warranty replacement for a busted 3-9 Conquest they couldn't fix. I still think that they won that trade. ;) I had a thread awhile back about what a POS it is. Oh, sure since I only have 300 bucks tied in it I shouldnt ##### too much, it might be one of the best $300 scopes around. At full price I’d be throwing chairs around;)
 
Leupold VX5 would be my choice... I had a VX6 firedot for a number of years on my .204 coyote rifle....awesome optic, never let me down. Ive had Zeiss fail in the past ( Conquest) and wont buy another.

Is Windplex firedot reticle an option? Windplex is more versatile than Duplex. I have both, with CDS-ZL. It's nice to have some windage hashmarks on the reticle vs none with the basic Duplex.
 
I run the same vx5hd you mentioned on my 3006 finnlight and will be upgrading my 204 with one as well as soon as they become available again! Love it

Quite the opposite back east here, not much time to play with hashmarks has ect when mr yote decides to appear.

I hunt the prairies and to be honest Ive never had to mess with wind or elevation either....99% of the coyotes I shoot come in to 100 yards. Put the dot on their chest and game over. Then again I shoot a .204 ruger...not really gonna take the long shot with that cal. My goal is to shoot the most effective fur calibre and get maximum value on fur.....if your in the game for just for fun or predator control....spinning turrets would be cool with a long range cal.
 
I've put a few miles on a V4, with no issues. Glass is good, the internals are excellent, tracks perfectly and it has held up to the recoil of the 7 mag without issue.
My only complaint is the cheap feeling windage turret. That plastic cap doesn't belong on a $1500 scope.

Between those two, pick the one that has the reticle you really like. I chose the Zeiss over the vx5hd because I preferred the ZBR2 reticle over the impact. Glass seemed very close to my eyes, both had a good reputation for tracking well and holding up to turret spinning. And neither is a total boat anchor.
Don't think you can go wrong with either scope.
 
Curious to know what the weight difference would be?
Zeiss tend to be on the pork-chop side.

For warranty purposes alone, Leupold gets the vote.

Bring a range finder with you and learn your distances, then you
don't need to clutter up the eye bawl gallery.
 
according to the interweb, the vx5hd is 22.3oz, whereas the V4 4-16x44 is 22.6oz. the 50mm version of the V4 is 23.0oz.
pretty close in weight.

You may be looking at the 4-20 at 23.5 ounces. The 3-15 is just over 19 as I weighed the one I had. 4-20 has a 34mm tube which I'm sure accounts for some of the weight and could pose some mounting challenges
