Bushnell also has a 2.5-16 in the 6500 series which is a good do it all scope. They pop up on the ee pretty frequently for $600.

This will give you the best of both worlds. Great long distance scope with excellent glass and the low magnification for those up close and personal shots. It is a bigger, heavier scope with a 30mm tube but has the range for doing what you want. I had a 6-18x40 Leupold on my coyote gun and removed it because I was losing too many critters when they would sneak in under 100 yds and 6x has waaay to small field of view to find them in the scope when they are on the move. I switched to a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x42. Those quick close up shots are a snap at 2.5 and 10x works well at the range.

Sightron STAC 2.5-17.5x56, illuminated reticle, SFP would be my choice. Under a thousand dollars gets you a lot.
