Coyote with a .22lr?

I used stingers once for shooting a couple of coyote sized dogs that were killing our turkeys. It was a very messy job, not quick and painless at all. I was close, 20yds. I shot for the chest, bullets did not penetrate adequately. They both died after 4-5 shots each, but I was not happy. I wouldn't do that again, even to a coyote.
If you must use a .22, a .22LR high speed hollow point of 40 grains would be a much better choice than the stingers. Stingers are great gopher bullets but too fragile for bigger stuff like coyotes in my opinion.

I have the same experience. I put two CCI Velocitors, likely the deadliest .22 round there is, into a coyote- one right behind the front leg in the boiler room, another just forward of that a few inches low shoulder. Did a very, very bad job and I wouldn't use a .22 on a coyote again. It died but wasn't clean, the shot was only a handful of yards too. I think a CCI Stinger would be one of the worst choices, on account of their near non-existant penetration.

Just grab some 6mm ammo.

I wouldn't. Too much chance of causing suffering. Get a Stevens 200 for $300.

I agree with this statement when you are intentionally hunting yotes.
However, the yote that was trying to get my puppy to come into my ravine to "play" with him didn't have my puppy's best interests at heart, so he got it with a volley from my 10-22. It wasn't as quick as I would have liked, however, it did put an end to his endevor to kill my puppy. I ranged it at 160 yards with my range finder after all was said and done.

That is one advantage of good optics on a semi-auto with a 25 round mag...fire and correct, repeat as needed.

A friend and myself were once tasked with protecting a farmer friends shrinking flock of guinea fowl. (noisy things) I had my .222 and my friend borrowed a semi auto Winchester rifle in 22 LR, and he loaded CCI Stingers. Long story short, he woke up a sleeping fox @30 yards and killed it with a stitch of four Stingers across it's ribcage as it tried to flee. He said it worked, but it wasn't clean and he would never use it again.

A 22 rimfire suffered by a coyote, would never be payback enough for all the suffering it caused wildlife.:D

Shoot them with what ever you have, and by doing so, you may put enough fear into them, that they will revert back to eating only mice.

I love the idea of a bullseye shot every time - but it doesn't happen. A coyote can have a bushy pelt, and that 22 would lose a lot of its punch.

Further - limiting your shot to 50m with a 22 sucks. Wow, you must be in yote heaven, or a heck of a caller. Either way, my hat's off to you.

I dropped a 125lb angry shepard mix with a mini mag from a 22lr. Shot entered just behind the base of the skull he dropped in his tracts. I'd use a 22lr for very close shots. There's better options yes. I use a 22mag and a 25-06 and also a scattergun. I've taken 2 with a bow as well. And that number would be 8-9 higher if I wasn't online while deer hunting instead of watching for the sneaky basterds

I saw a friends dad (farmer) drop a coyote with a .22lr..

however it was a ruger 10/22 and he just sprayed a full large clip. half till he hit it and the other half in2 it.

Any pics of the bow kills?
