Great report from the U of M which proves that hybreds of wolves and coyotes exist. I was hunting in Central Alberta and, while friving down a back road, jumped a large black animal that was about the size of a Malumute Husky. It leaped into the ditch and disappeared into a group of trees. As there was a light dusting of snow, checked the tracks and they were approximately 6 X 4 inches. Stopped at a nearby farm to ask permission to hunt on their property and the lady volunteered that I was welcome to do so. I mentioned the large black animal I saw and she said that she had seen the wolf, ( her noun not mine), hanging around with some smaller coyotes she had seen out in her pasture close to her cattle. Looking forward to doing some calling in this area. I guess if a Poodle can mate with a Saint Bernard, a wolf and a coyote could do the same. Interesting if they can reproduce, (unlike Mules which are the result of horses and donkeys and are infertile), we may have a smarter, bigger and more challenging animal to hunt!
