Coyote

Here's a 25 shot group at 100 yards with 155gr scenars. The rifle is nice and heavy (close to 17 lbs with optics and an empty mag) but is really well balanced and carries nicely. The muzzle brake is loud but now that I've shot a 308 with one I'd definitely consider another one on a 308. Virtually no muzzle jump allows me to get back onto target almost immediately. If you didn't blink your eye's you'd probably be able to see the bullet impact at 100 yards. Overall I'm quite happy with the rilfe and the service with Ross at PGW. With a 25 shot .334" group at 100 yards and without doing any load development thus far I guess it's safe to say that I got what I paid for. Now I just have to tweak this load and move on to the 175 SMK's.

Try this load.It worked well in my last PGW Coyote .308
Lapua Brass
Federal Match primer
43.5 gr Varget
175gr Sierra Match HPBT Seated at 10 thou off the lands.
.208 5 shot groups all day long.

Its akways a good sign when you've decided your wasting ammo by sending bullets into the same hole that consistently:)
Wish I had that problem.

As my barrel warms up the groups tend to open up a bit....which seems to happen after about 7-10 shots. In the past I've always used the 5 shot group as a rule but now I try to get 20-30 shots into a group. It gives me a better indication of how consistent my ammo is.

PETE 1......ya, I've been playing with the SMK 175's and I've been getting some really good results at 200 and 400 yards with just shy of 43grs. of Varget. I've tried two ladder tests with the 175's to confirm that. I'm really looking forward to getting some distance between me and the target just to see what he can do. I haven't had a chance to get him past 400 yards yet....but that's going to change PDQ.

I don't know how you did it buddy. 2 months waiting for a scope with one of the best 308 tactical rifles in the world just sitting there starring at you all day and night. You probably have no fingernails left! Oh well....you'll soon find out that the wait was well worth it.:)

Glad to see you finally made a decision on the scope - good choice!

Rifle looks really nice. Just wondering why you chose such a high ring? Does it fit you better?

The setup on my M40A3 uses the Badger USMC M40A3 rings - the SB actually sits real nice for me, without any raising of the cheekpiece.

Sharp looking rifle, congrats all around.

Cheers, Carl

finally pick up my scope today at the Calgary gun show. S&B 5-25x56 with tps high rings

armorman, now THAT'S a nice target !! That's what the rifle should be doing.
And YEAH, why the break, its a legitimate question, obviously it's a personal thing but I'm still curious did the rifle JUST COME WITH ONE or did he choose it for a reason , the questions being WHAT was the reason?
.308's typically have negligable recoil, it would help with repeat shots but also rules out using the rifle for certain match types that it might be damn good for otherwise.

That target was shot with a load that had no load development. I've shrunk that grouping since. Now I'm working on a few loads at longer ranges. I'm slowly finding out that just because a load does well at 2 or 300 yards that doesn't mean that it's stellar at 1000.

These rifles were all supplied with a brake....I'm sure if you didn't want one the boys at PGW would build one without. I like the brake though....it's maybe noisy and annoying for the spotter or people around you but the shooter feels nothing. I do a lot of shooting by myself so the brake allows me to spot the misses or impacts.....and if the conditions are correct I can watch the bullet's trail to target which is really neat to see. As far as competition goes.....you can remove the brake if you like. I am not interested in competing so it's going to stay on and to tell you truth now that I've shot a 308 with one I'd definitely be putting one on any future build.

What you need is Low ring, Not medium or High, For TPS ring, they Alittle higher than Mark4 or Nightforce ring...

I was just told i would need high rings. So thats what i got. Prob could get away with lower ones though.

Here's my M40A3 - it uses the Badger Ordnance USMC, which is their med-high ring. This combo of ring height - 1.000" would more than suffice for you scope.

Either the TPS or badger's will suit you fine. You might even get away with a lower ring(.882") because you have a shallower obj bell than the 3-12x50.

Most 34mm rings are 1.000" though because of the obj bells.

Nothing functionally wrong with those rings (Adjustable cheekpiece makes it the same as other stocks) - doesn't look the greatest but I wouldn't change it unless it really bugs you.

Nice rifle and groups. I wonder if Mystic could build something similar for the price based on a Savage that would shoot almost as good for those of us on a budget.;)

yea im going tomorrow to exchange the rings i just put them on to take some pics they weren't even tight. I noticed they were to high for my liking when i first got them but just had to put it together to see what she looks like. it wasn't the salesmen who told me it was other forum members but they might have been using different rings. no big deal. ill get a couple of pics of groups and new rings tomorrow.

heres with the lower rings I like it a lot better sits just perfect pics taken with my phone.
Shot it on monday and it shot like a dream it shoots better then i can, even when i screw up the groups by pulling a shot it still was 1/2Moa or better and that was with 165 gr federal premium hunting loads. no pics though ill try next time.
