Those are GPS collars. Provincial wildlife biologists are studying coyotes in proximity to our caribou herds. As I understand it, these particular coyotes (supposed to be 25 there) were taken in the course of three weeks in March in the Gisborne Lake area. Most of these coyotes were not called, but tracked on skidoo and then run down and shot, or in some cases, baited. Not quite my cup of tea, but with the impact they're having on the caribou, its not surprising that they're not held in high esteem around here.
