A few days ago and again at about 5pm I heard Coyotes howling near my place. Strange I don`t think I`ve heard them in daylight before. Now dusk or middle of night it sounds like a chorus out there sometimes.

But daylight howling is new to me?????????????

When people didn'thave a television, or even a radio to turn to for a weather forecast, they learned to interpret the birds and animals, as they forecast the weather. Coyotes howling in the daytime was considered the sign of a storm, usually the next day.
Same was true of a rooster crowing after he goton the roost at night. storm next day.

I've heard 'em howl in the daytime on occasion, especially if there's an emergency vehicle sounding its siren--that seems to drive 'em nuts.

Out here in the sticks we here it a lot right now as the pups are breaking in their voices.

Lately I've heard lots of yodelling around here (25km from town) and assumed it's the young ones (future targets) learning to communicate. Yesterday was a beautiful clear day and the local coyotes were singing the beat hell late in the afternoon. Woke up during the night, the clouds had socked in and it rained all night here. Maybe there is something to that weather change thing...?
