I grew up in Sudbury and never knew of any coyote's in ontario. Ive been living in alberta for a few years now and have had alot of fun varmint hunting. Now im moving back into southern ontario (kingston area), and i have read online that southern ontario has a good sized coyte population.

Just wondering if this is so and if anyone knows of a good way to approach getting into this? Im just a bit worried that ive gotten used to the cowbay mentality of go out and blast and that if i do this in ontario ill get nailed hard. Has anyone had good success with yotes in ontario or had hard times with the law as far as varmint shooting goes?

Any help would be great thanks.

They're a bit more than a "good sized coyote population", they're actually becoming pests.
In Kingston Open Season is year round, and I'm pretty sure you fall into the .275 or under restriction.

I dont think there are any possetion limits either.

I keep meaning to get into coyote hunting, but fishing tends to get in the way!

All you need is a few mouth calls, a rifle and a camo shirt, hat and face covering. I use my prey master digital call on occasion but its bulky with the wires, great for crows though. I use my HMR during the summer and .223 for winter dogs. I have a couple distress calls and a few coyote holwer type calls that a use.

Kingston does not fall into the .275 or under reg. Pick a gun and blast away.

I've got a .223 AICS project just getting finished up at TAC ORD for just such a purpose.
Going to give the Niagara area a go with an electronic caller. More to follow.

I keep hearing that they are here, but I have yet to see one. I hunt in areas around London and have only seen tracks. I'd like to get out and do some coyote hunting but like everything else around here, permission, and good spots to shoot them are closely guarded secrets.

"...lots of wolves but no yotes..." That'd be because the wolves kill every coyote they can.
Read the hunting regs. There are some silly rules in some WMU's. Considered to be a fur bearing beastie. Don't think the Kingston area is a .275 or under area, but check with the township where you end up hunting. There are some municipalities that say .270 too. Mostly around TO though.

i live in quinte west about 45 min west of kingston, there are lots of areas to coyote hunt as long as you have permission, 270 or under for this area
