CPC Leadership

Just a reminder that Trudeau has stated that he is personally pro-life but that he supports a woman's right to choose. That's all they need to hear. If they hear the last part, they completely forget the first part.

Lewis is saying that, but in a really round-about way. Just state it clearly, already. Just give them the soundbite and end the speculating.

^This Dr Lewis missed an opportunity to do so in that letter I posted. By not doing so she raised more questions and uncertainty about her suitability as CPC leader

She HAS NO CHANCE for many reasons. I am constantly disturbed by the Anti Abortion #azis. They are so concerned about a FETUS but when the birth happens they wash their hands for the concern of the newborn . For exampleb in B.C.just last week a DEAD newborn found in a portable tolit / putting newborns in a bag and throwing it into a dumpster / infancide by the mother / not to mention the abuse children recieve on the REZ etc. Anti Abortion nuts are fake as they only care about themselves and their twisted adjenda. They are like the flat earth nuts or the Liberals .

So you're saying that anyone who is anti abortion doesn't care about the dead newborn found in a bag? This is why it is a good idea you don't be a one issue voter.

I’m in for Dr. Lewis. Many people in my demographics (mid 30’s in small towns in southern Ontario) would never vote for the conservatives after watching the funding being pulled from things we care about.. I haven’t for years, because I value the environment, education and public health. But I now want to support the CPC as I’m fed up with the liberals (never ever voted for them) and I have seen the other parties fail to actually make any noticeable difference.

I think Lewis could stand a chance at keeping more individual freedoms for Canadians yet pushing for the things I value. Continuing to invest in green energy yet using our own oil to support our economy. Not to mention she’s a women of color. So many voters that support other parties have been screaming for a female Prime Minister for so long, it would be hard for them to support a white male from privilege when she’s an option.

I’m sure many here will disagree with me but here I am, a previous supporter of the green or NDP shifting over to the CPC.

The old guard has to go . The past the Conservatives gave us Bill C17 and the GST the Liberals stepped it up a notch and we are here today for what it's worth . Time to dump all the old party career hacks and go with something outside the box . Dr Lewis I hope you are it please don't disappoint honest, excepting ,average hard working Canadians .

Same here. I supported the NDP for years. I even went door-knocking with Jack one year. But since his death the party has just pandered to the urban vote. They have abandoned their agricultural and union base completely. I'll vote for any party that has a chance of dethroning the preening manchild PM we have now. This will be my second consecutive election voting CPC. I don't think you and I are alone in that. I hate a lot of what they stand for, but then again I hate a lot of what any major party stands for these days. Bring back the Rhino Party!

I'll likely still vote for her as leader, but her response bothers me - not because she's pro-life/anti-choice, but because she's using the same kind of waffly doublespeak used by every career politician.

Everybody: "Hey Dr Lewis, do you support a woman's right to choose?"

Lewis: *multiple paragraphs and a personal anecdote that still doesn't answer the question*.

Lewis.

The abortion issue isn't big enough to sink her. big if it is an issue at all... all speculation so far in here. she deserves the chance for all the other much better reasons to face the turd and knock his effing beard clean off his smug face.

She's smart, validated, experienced, the right age and new. I liked Erin on some things, Derek big maybe, but both of them may be too akin to polar opposites of the turd and could come across as disingenuous on any or every topic. I believe she can defend herself better.

The only problem is whether or not she could operate in the political space effectively. She needs to be kinda cuthroat-business like if not a career politician. I wonder.

I watched a townhall with Lewis last night, I wasn't impressed. Some of it had to do with the format, but some was her waffling on some issues. If you are at this stage, you should have answers to questions that general people will ask you. Once the media starts hounding you, there is no time for indecision.

Since this topic came up here i have gone and watched a few videos of each the three main candidates being interviewed (often by somewhat hostile interviews like some CBC hosts) i was surprised at how good O'Toole is at keeping his cool and giving a clear, well spoken defense of his positions. He comes across as very natural and unscripted.

I have concerns there. I still think she's smart enough, hopefully, to get through it.

I believe we are at a turning point in Canadian history. No one spectacular opposition leader will likely be the saviour of Canada now. Canada will turn into a mixed disparate set of communities all over the country. Slowly masked by media and accidental good intentions by most to remain nice. All the while going further down the drain. There are too many people that don't care or don't want to learn for themselves. I used to think that was just a yeah yeah story kinda of description. No longer.

Convincing anyone of anything in a polictally charged atmosphere of misinformation is laughable. Everyone thinks they are correct. The freedom each individual has been given is masked by the fact that freedom isn't given by the government it exists without its involvement regardless. Being moral and good are choices taught by moral and good people so we're all pretty nice.

Lewis if charismatic, has a chance to help Canada. Who really knows anything. I just found out that legally the queen actually owns all the land in Canada (-9% or so) and we just own rights so to speak of use granted by the province and federal government each administering 50% of said management.

The Canada Act (really wish I didn't learn about it so late in life)

We have no damn rights. End of story. Borrowed and granted from others blessings.

O'Toole could be a contender. Yes he is a white male, but he is also an "outsider" and a very good speaker (he has that military bearing with the snappy answers to stupid questions that comes naturally after a couple of years in). And I still say whoever appeals to small-to-mid businesses in the wake of this recession can win a lot of hearts and minds, especially in Ontario. It's smaller businesses that are being battered right now.

With Doug Ford riding high right now, could a Ford endorsement help O'Toole in Ont? What think the locals?

I watched Doug Ford call his constituents "Yahoos", while protesting at the legislature, in addition he verbally attacked those same people for flying the Canadian flag upside down. These people were protesting the ridiculous OIC for all firearms owners. He does not seem like a good Conservative to me. He apparently does not understand that flying the flag upside down means duress.

You are in the military, what does flying the flag upside down really mean?

If Ford is a left wing Conservative, we do not need him for anything. All I see him doing is alienating his own conservative votes.

I watched Erin O'Toole townhall tonight. My wife listened form a distance and asked me who that was talking. She said it all made sense. She asked for a membership.
