CQB match at Guelph Rod and Gun Club 19 October

It's generous and great for the sport to loan equipment and try and get everyone involved but don't you have to be holster qualified to run this competition?

Nope.. I just attended one recently in Quebec and it was a great event. Well-organized, the RSO's made sure it was 100% safe for everyone. Holster certs are a great way of giving our Yank friends a good laugh as they handle the safety training at the club level

No. That is the beauty of this course of fire. The pistol is in the holster, empty. On the make ready command, you stick a mag into the pistol, while it is in the holster. Chamber remains empty. Rifle is loaded and you start the shoot. You draw the pistol, rack the slide, and shoot.

Watch this. Note that the rifle is shot first, pistol is then drawn and racked:

Please see my original post
This is an outlaw match, it is not IPSC, IPDA, or sanctioned by the Ontario Rifle Association. You do not need a Black Badge to participate.

Thanks for the offer. But I'm missing a lot of the required gear as well. I definitely need to start building up my equipment list so I can get into this.
Bare minimum you need;
  • Rifle + Sling
  • 5 rifle mags
  • Handgun + holster
  • 2 pistol mags
Everything else is Gucci (except the pens, do not forget to bring pens) belts and webbing and high speed low drag multi-cam underpants are mostly for the fashion show portion of these matches. Some things are going to make carrying mags easier, some things will make you more comfortable, a few things might even let you be faster. But you can jam mags in pockets and get away with a cheapo holster to get started and find out what you like.

-----------------
Can you use coupled mags or are all reloads from the belt?
couplers are good to go.

-----------------
what calibers are allowed for rifles?
Lets try to stick with common calibers. Rim fire will be for fun only, not for score. So lets say nothing bigger then 50 cal:50cal: (any type; action express, BMG, beowulf)?
No 20mm (including 20mm lahti), no 40mm M203s, no 81mm mortars, no 84mm Charlie Gs, no 105mm howitzers G:

I'm probably going to stop taking names and close the registration soon. The number of registrations is very encouraging. I might consider a stand by list if there is enough demand.
See ya'll there, and good luck to those shooting the championship match at Borden tomorrow.

If you have not registered yet and want to attend I will put your name on the standby list.

If following Service CQB COF,
Match 1, rifle 4 mags of 5 rds, 1 mag of 4 rds, pistol 2 mags of 3 rds.
Match 2, rifle 4 mags of 5 rds.
Match 3, rifle 4 mags of 5 rds, 1 mag of 4 rds, pistol 2 mags of 3 rds.
Match 4, rifle 4 mags of 5 rds, pistol 2 mags of 5 rds.
If you only have 4 mag pouches....just put one in your drop pouch and start with that one first.

So no real advantage to running LAR mags?

So no real advantage to running LAR mags?

Yes, there is an advantage to running the 10 rounder LAR's using the GS Designs magazine extender. I load them up with 5 rounds at a time. There is lots and lots of slack so that I can always reload on a closed bolt NO MATTER WHAT! That's peace of mind. Here I am showing the LAR Magazine Extender to the CQB shooters at the ORA CQB Match 7 on 05 Oct...

See how I am grabbing the bottom of the mag extender on the LAR 10 rounder? Most positive grab and now no more magazine / bullet jams because I don't have to worry about wondering if my magazine loads on a forward bolt.... little bit of flexibility on that magazine follower. :D

Hope this helps. I love my LAR 10 rounders now! No more dropping the 2 coupled magazines on the ground and getting the bottom magazine feed lips dirty or potentially dented or ruined.

Cheers and keep helping the nooobs!

You can just get 5/30 mags that are pinned properly. I prefer 5/30s for CQB because I can quickly strip off only 5 rounds with a charger and clips. More of a PITA with a 10 round capacity mag. I've shot CQB for years with 5/30s and no issues.

Don't get me wrong, I like the GS extenders. I've used a similar system for SR for the past two years with great success. Just don't feel you are going to loose out by using properly working 5/30s. As some people will say, you #### won't fall off if you run 5/30s

Great match today! CQB is definitely a different beast and it was a great opportunity to learn for me. Thanks again dink27 and all of the others that helped put this match on!

It was nice to see everybody again and it was a great day for getting back to basic fundamentals! It has been a while since I've done CQB and I highly recommend anyone who hasn't shot a rifle match to try it.

Thanks dink27 for putting on the match. Enjoyed my first CQB, even though the learning curve was pretty steep at the beginning. Certainly hope more of these can be run in the future.
