When I use a two point sling, the sling often finds its way between me and the rifle.

For CQB SR a single point sling makes sense to me because it is far less likely to come between me and my rifle.

Earlier today, this Gear Sector ASP Single Point Sling review came to my attention...
http://www.weaponevolution.com/forum/showthread.php?74-Gear-Sector-ASP-Single-Point-Sling-Review

It is so very well written that I wonder if it is just cleaver marketing, or a true and sincere review ;)

Does anyone know of a better single point sling?

Equally important, I am wondering about the rifle attachment mechanism.

What type of QD Sling Mount mechanism will serve me best?

An end plate sling mount...
p_100004383_1.jpg

Or a Single Point Sling Mount that can install on any M4 style carbine receiver extension, such as the Tango Down PR-4 Rear Sling Mount
Tango%20Down%20PR-4-2.jpg

While I can just go ahead and try things, it seems to be a more expensive approach then research and talking about things before they are bought (providing the sources of information are accurate).

Looking forward to the responses... vendor comments welcome too ;)

I prefer a end plate sling mount, keeps a lower profile on the rifle. Single point slings are all similar performing in my opinion. You could look into something like the magpul or condor slings that can convert from one to two point, just so you have one for CQB and one for easy carry around the range. I don't know of any dealer that carries the gear selector slings so it might be hard to find unless you go south (no h*m*) :p

Hope that helps :)

Thank's for the feedback, pobcat :)

Well, I was just about to steal my wife's luggage straps for my rifle sling... but then I found the perfect single point sling... because it comes with accessories that make it be configured in any way imaginable!

The "Blue Force Gear SOC-C Sling Contractor Pak"
optacticalgear_2153_125317484

NOTE: This kit permits the very same configuration as the Gear Sector ASP Single Point Sling

It can be configured as a single, double, or triple point sling :)

Also found this neat write up, should anyone else be interested:

Put Your AR in the Right Sling

Still looking for the "right" Quick Detach sling plate (I'm leaning towards the Troy plate depicted above), but need to get back to work now.

Plates can be found easily at One Shot Tactical, Daves and Questar. easy fix.

JUST DON'T DO IT ON THE RANGE BEFORE YOU SHOOT.
Sorry Ol' Blacky people with good tastes wouldn't but I am a:

As Pobcat mentioned, I like the plates as well. Do you use a MOLLE vest?

Yes, I do... London Bridge Trading Co, molle vest :)

However, I am experimenting with HSGI chest / plate carrier gear right now.

Their "Weesatch" plate carrier seems ideal for CQB Competition, but a review of it in theater (as a plate carrier), would have me believe that it would not be suitable for it (because the plate would be too low on the body, plate moves around too much, complete rig does not provide suitable protection, and does not feel comfortable with plates inserted into it). That said, I don't see why it could not be worn over a better plate carrier (such as a PIG Plate Carrier), if desired.
http://www.highspeedgearinc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=HSG-WEE

It would appear that the (Personal Incident Gear) "PIG Plate Carrier" is the favoured plate carrier, because... well, because it was very well designed.
http://www.skdtac.com/PIG_Plate_Carrier_p/pig.502.htm

My competitive focus is more on Service Rifle, so I went with the HSGI "Warlord V-3 Bravo New Version", but found that the straps were difficult to negotiate. This issue may be mitigated by loosening up the straps (I like wearing it tight to the body and high on the chest so the magazine pouch can be used as an elbow rest).
http://www.highspeedgearinc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=HSG%2FN-WARV-3B&cat=13

To tidy up the back straps, I just ordered the HSGI "Hercules Plate Carrier Adapter", so the cross back straps would not get twisted and it could be more easily pulled over rain gear, etc.
http://www.highspeedgearinc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=HSG%2FHercules&cat=13

HSGI has amazing customer service... I told them I needed the Hercules plate carrier adapter for the upcoming Service Rifle Clinic and they made and shipped it today :)

The Plate Carrier Adapter should arrive before the Service Rifle clinic. Is there anyone going to the Service Rifle clinic that can lend me a set of plates for the day? I would like to understand how it would feel with a plate load, but do not wish to purchase plates, as I really have no need to own my own plates.

Not to hijack your thread but......X2 on the HSGI love :D

I just picked up the Wasatch and love the sh^t out of it :cheers:

I have worn it with and without plates fits about the same although the girth must be adjusted. Haven't noticed it riding low if properly adjusted.

Yep, I love HSGI too...

1. Well I cannot find that dang video now, but the reviewer pointed out that the top of the human heart is exposed (as are the sides and back without additional accessories).

2. All seem to agree that it is front heavy, even more so with the front plate inserted (unless you have the plate carrier adapter that will afford the ability to insert a back plate too).

I do not know anything, except I really like the folk at HSGI... so here is another review on the Weesatch / Wasatch ("It's designed as a plate carrier and (at least int he CF as far as I've seen) we usually put our plates directly in the soft body armor. Without the plates on the front and back, the front is really overbalanced and it pulls down."):

Found it !!!

I really love HSGI... and since I know very little, I am merely presenting the information found and letting others decide for themselves.

This is also why I would like to borrow plates for the upcoming Service Rifle Clinic, so I will actually be able to compare information found to the reality of the situation in a learning setting. If I cannot perform this test, all is fine, as I do not really have a need for plates -- I was merely looking for a way to wear my rig higher and be able to pull it over bulking layered cloths and/or rain gear without the straps getting all tangled up on me.

:stirthepot2:

I just got a cheap Blackhawk plate (which I changed at the range - Thanks for bringing that up, DirtyFecker), and a TAG CQC sling from Oneshot. The whole rig cost me 50 bucks.

Like most gear, it works better than I do. Save money on gear and spend it on ammo. That's how you make a sling work.

Finally decided on the sling mount. It was a little frustrating, because there were so many comments and makes.

So I cleared my mind and thought -- what do I want?

* Quick Detach (QD)
* End Plate
* Aluminum
* Swivel
* ASAP (Ambidextrous Sling Attachment Point)
* Hook -or- Strap, Attachable

Drum roll please...

Actually they are a knock off of the Daniel Defense ones.

We carry Daniel Defense and have some of those coming in.

I highly recommend doing a search on the internet about feedback on Botach. You might get your order, you might not from them.

PS: Hotlinking to non sponsors isn't allowed

Actually they are a knock off of the Daniel Defense ones.

I'm not sure who copied who... there should be patents on this type of stuff. I found several versions that seem to be copies of each other:

* KZ End Plate QD Swivel Attachment (approx. $25 USD with swivel)
* GG&G AR-15/M16 Receiver End Plate Quick Detach Sling Mount (approx. $38 USD with swivel)
* Noveske QD End Plate (approx. $24 USD without swivel + $16 USD for swivel = $40 USD with swivel)
* Daniel Defense Receiver End Plate (approx. $47 USD with swivel)

NOTE: I remember Hungry saying that one should avoid mixing steel with aluminum, so I guess one should avoid the Noveske since it is made out of steel.

Thank you for the heads up on Botach not being reliable -- they have exclusive distribution rights to the KZ aluminum version in the U.S. and have U.S. Government contracts that probably influence how they retail to non-Government clients. I called the wrong phone number and got an immediate telephone answer that told me they have exclusive KZ distribution rights and then provided with the civie telephone number that went unanswered when called.

P.S.: Botach Tactical has online customer service and I was able to chat with their online customer service without any delay (during their regular business hours). They advertise: "We Will NOT Be Undersold. Quantity Discounts & Professional Quotations Available Upon Request." & "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed" & "BBB Acredited Business"... oh, and oh my "Passover Holiday Schedule. We will be closed the following days. April, 19, 20, 25 & 26th. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patronage." I will let everyone know how my experience was with them -- for better or worse, since I had already ordered these items from them (2 for $50 USD + S&H). There is a lot of stuff that we cannot buy from the U.S. and/or would simply prefer to buy from our Contributing Dealer / Friend & Supporting Dealers ;)

Farmboy, I visited your web site and could not find even the Daniel Defense one (although the "Push Button Quick Detach Swivels" was the very first item listed) :( Nor could I find a web site listing for the Viper PST rifle scope or the quick detach mount that I bought from your store (actually, I bought a lot of stuff from your shop). For us to know that you have these things, they should be listed in your web site and ideally found by a search engine, such as google.com or bing.com ;) Perhaps you can get exclusive Canadian distribution rights for this KZ QD Sling attachment, my friend ;) They are retailing for 1/2 the price of the Daniel Defense ones (and I want 2 of them). Called your store and was told that this is vapourware right now, but that they should be in soon. Perhaps adding a "Coming Soon" section to your web site would help -- providing you do not advertise items that never arrive, because that would ruin the benefit of it.

no company in the world worse then Botach

I should have ignored your comment...

1. They provide priority support to U.S. Gov't & LE agencies.
2. They provide the best pricing and guarantee it.
3. Their online customer service worked in a timely fashion (immediately during their business hours, when I tried).
4. They respond to email correspondence and cancelled my order in a timely fashion (24-48 hours).
5. They have exclusive distribution rights for the KZ End Plate QD Swivel Attachment that retails for $25 + S&H

Once upon a time, I sold many things on the internet and occationally I found that people would do tricks to steal goods; do tricks to cause the business financial harm (for whatever motivation); and, spread misinformation because they were encountering financial loss due to loss in their sales revenue.

So it looks like I will be buying the "GG&G AR-15/M16 Receiver End Plate Quick Detach Sling Mount" version, which will cost me (2x (38 - 25)) = $26 USD more :(

In the future, I may do a transaction with Botach Tactical to see for myself, what is what.

Too bad I forgot about propaganda, before acting on the comments left by vendors. On eBay and elsewhere, vendors often create additional accounts to make negative comments, etc. -- so I assume that the vendors are sincere and talking about their direct experiences with Botach Tactical, although the supporting details were not provided. I personally know Farmboy... and don't think he would ever intentionally bad mouth anyone.

For anyone interested... this is a quick documentary on propaganda... and it has not changed much over the years except for the media that it appears in:

Propaganda Techniques - 1950

- - - - - - - - - -

Oh, I am so very happy. Botach Tactical had cancelled my order as per my email request and then reactivated per a subsequent email... all hassle free :D

Furthermore, I noticed a Customer Service Survey attached to the Order Cancellation Confirmation.

If I actually get the two, "KZ End Plate QD Swivel Attachments" for $50 + S&H... I am going to be one happy camper and understand why other vendors would see them as a threat to their business (Botach Tactical is like Chapter/Indigo to the local bookstore).

That said... with ITAR... I think our Canadian vendors have nothing to fear.
