CQB With an Enfield!

Who else has tried "controlled pairs" with an Enfield?

I had the opportunity this past weekend to shoot a CQB match with a #4 (alas it was borrowed, and the mags jammed up on the rapid fire phase)

But I was able to get off my 20 rounds at 15m, pairs fired at huns-heads. Turn, present, fire, fire.

FUN!

I was actually quite amused to note that I shot those targets better with the Enfield than I did with the AR type rifle (with EoTech)

It was a learning experience, and before I'd try it again, I'd make sure I had a reliable set of mags to use.

Anyone else ever try this sort of thing?

Since I read about the CQB in Québec that precise idea crossed my mind. Can you explain, or give me a link that explain that CQB ? (and what does that mean anyway ?)

Well, the Enfield is probably the fastest bolt-gun from the war era that they ever made! Its the best gun for the job.
All you have to do is go and ask a veteran of the Italian campaign. They will tell you that the gun worked just fine!
WWII vets fought for 6 years with a bolt gun, and made it just fine clearing half of Europe room-by-room.
Who needs some fancy AR anyways!

Mis-stacked the rounds in your mags? That's easy to do with rimmed ammo like .303

That would be fun, were you using your trigger finger on the trigger, or doing the 'mad minute' trigger pull?

what you REALLY need is a shortened TANKER enfield to shoot that coarse with. extra handy 20" bbl

Would be interesting to debate the sights on the SMLE vs. those one the No. 4 with regards to CQB...

I loaded the rounds in the mags rather carefully, alas, with some of them being modified #1 mags that someone had a go with a grinder on to make 'em fit, that wasn't an ideal situation....

Yes, I've done the "mad minute" before, and had 16 hits at 200m (prone) from a dry gun.

More practice would make that better...

Love that shortened tanker you have there Beater. What wood is that stock, and what kind of finish on it?? I love the dark woods, although my LE is a blonde

In the CQB, could you use stripper clips instead of changing mags ?

I imagine the biggest problem with mags would be keeping the rounds in them when they are detached from the rifle. They weren't really designed to be loaded while detched, and thus, don't stay in all that well... unless someone out there knows how to bend the lips just right in order to both hold the rounds in, and let it feed properly.

Sounds like fun though!

Do you work the bolt with your thumb and forefinger and fire with the middle?
