It was a great day at Service CQBm8!
Well it didn’t start off that way! Most of us woke to snow on our cars and the drive up for some was in white out style conditions. The day on the range started out cold and windy with snow on the ground (I love modified prone). But as the match started the sun came out and the wind started to taper of (well kinda) and the snow melted. All in all this is what Service Conditions is about. It was great to see new faces in the group.

Eric has the Tim Foo. Drove up to Borden in the rain/snow, but it stopped at the gate. No snow or rain. In fact, by match time the sun was trying to come out.

Tim led us in a minute of silence for the deaths of two soldiers last week. I think of them each time I see my poppy.

Had a new screw up to day. After one shot the pistol hag dropped out. had that a few times with the AR15, but never with a pistol.

Tried my CZ858 out. the SPARC red dot gets amazing results for no magnification.

Boo boos make such a difference. Dropped rifle, pulled out pistol, racked it and "click". Racked again, click. Mag wasnt seated... Always something. Despite the foul-ups, a great day to shoot with good friends.
 
Tremendous day, that was one fast moving match, people were literally running to get to their positions. Thanks to Tim, and Erich our new Match Director for pulling this together. The moment of silence was heart wrenching, thanks Tim.

Remembered enough kit to use my pistol this time, only forgot my single point sling, but as usual, another competitor stepped up to loan me his spare, thanks Rino!

See you on the 29th, I'm predicting it will be sunny and warm!

I run a GoPro on my hat and was asked about the quality at the match. Here's a short sample. I don't run it to see how good I am, I run it to see how bad I am and where I can improve. I use it in IPSC a lot, it's really opened my eyes. You may think you're out there tearing it up, but in my case I'm not. From this video you can see that I keep forgetting to take the safety off after moving, one day I'll get this.

I can see from the timing that I am too fast with my pistol, shooting IPSC style where time is your enemy. Slowing down a bit and using up all of the available time (Tim is really good with the "..aaaaannnnnddddddd STOP") would have probably gotten me fewer misses.

The new low end GoPro looks to be quite capable of good video, a bit smaller and lighter, and best of all cheaper. With one flat mount, 4 pop rivets and some backing plates you can add it to just about any ball cap. A waterproof case muffles the sound a lot, I was running the open back on my Hero 3 last weekend, so you can actually hear all of the range commands.
