Cracked barrel on 150 round Remington 1911 R1?

If you see that this is not a surface imperfection, you should NOT FIRE this gun. I've had 1911's since I started shooting (Many moons ago}and have never seen this kind of
a crack in a barrel. I've seen peened upper lugs and knocked off lowers. An overloaded round ? Verify that it's just cosmetic with magnification or any other method and if it
turns out to be a crack I would venture that it was a factory defect. Send it to Remington and don't sweat it.

My R1 has had a least 1K rounds threw it, and some pretty hot ones at that.

I've heard that the Norinco .45 acp can (emphasis on "can". I've shot lots with no issue) knock the projectile back into the case against the powder as it's being chambered...you guessed it...over psi (pressure spike in the chamber)=KABOOM!

The feed ramp on the barrel looks kind of shallow with a fairly obtuse angle/degree to it. I'm not a gambling man, but...

I've managed to polish the mark out somewhat but I can still see something under the magnifying glass. I was going to take it to the range and shoot it to see if the blackened area returns, but I've since decided against that.
Remington has sent me a case number, so I imagine they will get back to me. After reading a few threads here about barrels coming apart I don't want to risk it. I have other guns to shoot.
I just don't want to look like the village idiot if I send in a barrel that is not cracked. But I've seen my share of cracks in metal. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.........

You are far from being "The village idiot" if the barrel turns out to be ok. Firing a suspect barrel would be far more "Idiotic".
The folks I shoot with have nothing but respect for anyone who wants to keep his or her eyes and fingers attached to the mother ship !

You should be able to get some magnaflux locally at most serious autoparts retailers. Tool stores sometimes carry the LPI dyes as well. If it were me I wouldn't be patient enough to get "the" answer from someone else. :)
