Hello Everyone,

I need a option regarding the face of the bolt on my Weatherby Mark V Fibermark in 375 H&H which I purchased her in Edmonton on August 28, 2006 new from a local gun shop.

After returning from a successful moose hunt in Alberta (We shot 1 Bull and 2 Cows with this rifle all one shot kills) and upon cleaning the gun I noticed what appears to be cracks in the bolt face which I am sure weren't there when I last cleaned the gun. I have pictures but being new to the site I am not sure how to post them. I could e-mail to you for an opinion.

The load I am using is 71 grains of Reloader 15, Federal 215 primers and Nosler 260gr Partitions from the Nosler Manual. There apers to be no pressure problems with the load and it shoots accurately.

Is this a concern I should raise with the dealer?

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Cam

Take it back immediately to your dealer for an inpection by them. If you get no satisfaction from them, contact Weatherby directly and tell them about the problem if your dealer hasn't.
It doesn't sound like the load was hot, so that should not be an issue.
Let us know what happens please.

You may not want to mention that you were using reloaded ammo, even if it wasn't a hot load.I' m pretty sure most firearm warranties would be voided by the use of re manufactured ammo.

Take it to a Smith for "Inspection" before you do anything.........
That way you'll know exactly what you're dealing with and if it's an issue at all ;)

Here's an update. I sent an e-mail to the Weatherby Warranty center in BC. Below is his reply. Thanks to everyone who commented. I am sending him the rifle this afternoon.

Hi, Cameron,

From your pictures is looks like a surface scar, but we should take a closer look to make sure, either way it does not look pretty, and should be remedied.

We would need the complete rifle, incase an adjustment is needed, which requires headspacing and test firing.

The rifle should be sent directly to us, rather than via the dealer, if you have the box that came with the rifle, that is the best cover, along with an extra layer of cardboard over it.
We have found that Canada post, or DHL courier, are the most reliable shippers in this area.

Thank you for contacting us,
If you need more info. please advise, Dave.

Dave's a Good Fella and has done Lots of work for me over the years.
He'll treat you right:cool:

I sure will update the thread. The 260's worked awesome. The longest shot was about 150 yards and all were hit right in the front shoulders. They dropped like rocks. No bullets recoverd as they all pasted thru. I was very pleased with the performance.

When I was shopping for the rifle back in August I truly wanted a Sako 75 Hunter but all I could find was the Fibermark in 375 H&H. I am a true lover of wood stocks and was wondering if this rifle could be fitted with a Mark V Deluxe stock.
Does anyone know if this would be expensive or even possible?

I picked up a Sako Deluxe in 243 last weekend from P&D Enterprises and it is awesome.

By the way, I can tell you from previous experience, David Jennings is a fine gunsmith. He is very professional and extremely fussy about appearance and performance both. You're rifle will come back in great condition. One of the things Dave just assumed that you knew, Unless the rifle came with a scope as a package, take it off the rfle before shipping. bearhunter

Any Update from Dave:

HI, Cam,

I have ordered a new bolt body for your rifle, it is very difficult to tell if the mark on the bolt face is cosmetic or a flaw in the metal, so we have to work on the safe side, and replace the part.

It does take a while to get parts, but I will keep you posted.

Dave.

Cracked Bolt Update

Dave Jennings is going to replace the bolt body which will take awhile to receive and get the rifle back to me. So much for using the rifle to finish my season off with. I called Rodney of Weatherby to ask what they would do to try and make this right. I was offered a box of shells!:dancingbanana:

I guess the quality of Weatherby Rifles has taken a turn for the worst and I am sure O'l Roy would be turning in his grave if he knew what kind of junk they are turning out for us to buy. :runaway:

Sorry for ranting but I sure don't want this to happen to anyone else.
