Cracked butt plate ??

I dropped my gun and cracked the butt plate. Has anyone had good success with repairing them. I thought I would use an epoxy to fasten the broken piece on and then die grind a groove in the back across the crack and epoxy in a dowel pin or something like that for strength. Then I could use an enamel paint to cover it up.

Any idea's??

Replacing the butt plate is not an option.

Is the crack between the screws? If so just install the butt plate with a little epxoy on the surfaces of the crack. Cover up and sanding is an option after the epoxy cures. Does the gun need the butt plate to be removed to disassemble? If so be careful that the epoxy does not bond to the butt stock.

Re Crack

I actually broke the top corner off the butt plate of a Savage 24C. It has the trap door for shells to be stored in the stock.
