Cracks in my brand new Smith and Wesson 986

My 986 is the Performance Centre "baller" edition which comes with a special non existent ball detent lock up.
It's sweet and apparently free from the custom shop

WTF! Is that a "lunch box" gun!? Don't tell me it made it out of the factory like that!?

Those lines are what happens when you cut a radius on a partly round part on a miling machine. Could have been blended in, but it would have cost $12/hr to have someone do that.

I own several S&W revolvers from 1937 to 1993 manufacture. None of them are perfect, but there seems to be an expectation and delivery of some very basic good or better qualities.

But the crap they willingly place on the market these days (in knee jerk response to popular sales) just makes me shake my head in wonder.

I would suggest that their most recent and notable slide downhill seems to have started with the 625 for whatever reason(s) and continues full force with their 9mm variants.

dammit! ok, i'm in up to 803$

Woah! Deep pockets and reckless bidding - I'm out!

I had a look at my 629 last night and it has the same imperfections. Guess I never noticed.

I'm more bothered by the cheap swirly pseudo-polished finish than anything else. It was my first 6 series gun, and I'd not buy another unless it was bead blasted like the 66/69.

Though on the plus side it's pre-scratched, so I can be less careful with how I handle it

Current S&W craftsmanship. My old 686-2 was gorgeous. They don't make them like that anymore.

S&W is just pushing them out as fast as possible. That combined with their cost cutting measures and MIM trigger groups lead to products like this. No thanks, will stick with my older Smiths.

My first thought is that you can buy a whole lot of used revolver for the price of a 986 (or any other new S&W) but I'm odd that way. I'd far rather spend $800 on a 35 year old Browning Hi-Power than a BNIB Glock or M&P

A 686-3or4 like new shipped just sold for $700 last week. A new 986 will set me back ~$1400. $700 buys a lot of 357 ammo with lots of brass for reloads.

Well am sure not everyone can afford a $3000 revolver..... If a little seam on the inside of a gun is that big a deal you may want to try another sport.
