Just thought I'd share a Chu wood story with my gun buddies online. A few weeks back I took a good friend shooting. I hadn't seen him in over a year and he's never been shooting before, so I figured it'd be a great time, and it was. We put about 275rnds downrange in a couple of hours, however we both began noticing our accuracy was turning to sh*t very quickly, at first I thought it was us getting tired, or getting the "flinch" from our sore shoulders. As we were packing up I went to rest my rifle on the bench but it slipped out of my hand and fell about 2 inches to the bench landing on its side, no big deal, but the noise that came from the impact was not normal, lots of metal clatter sounds. Upon intial inspection the entire trigger group was loose, I could move it side to side 1/8' inch. I popped the trigger guard catch and the entire assembley fell out of the stock, and the stock and barrel also fell apart. I field stripped the rifle on the tailgate and found a 7" crack running from the stock liner screw towards the butt of the stock, AND a crack running from the front sling rivits straight down the middle of the stock that was 5". I figured the best way to remedy the situation was to split the son of a "b" over my knee, which I did, and I felt better right away. When I got home I took a hack saw to the remains and felt even better. BTW it took about 3 strokes with a fine tooth metal hacksaw to get through the thickest part of the stock. Pure garbage. I bought a beautiful USGI stock from a nutter on the boards and all is well again. When the senior guys on this site say (many times over) that the #1 thing to do with your new rifle is get a USGI stock, I can assure you it's great advice. :runaway:
