Well I just purchased a CZ-858 and a crate of surplus ammo but i just noticed that the crate says 7.62x43 and the headstamp say BXN 43... Is the No. 43 just the No. from the producer and the rounds are 7.62x39, like I'm pretty twisted right now and i've been trying the make sence of what i'm reading about it but it's not making much sence right now!! Somebody please explain this to me! Thanks

I don't recall seeing the letter M, if i recall right it just says 7.62x43 and on the metal lid it says the same and on the headstamp it says bxn 43..alright so its 7.62x39 man i wish i wasn't such a newbie!

When I bought my crate at Lever Arms in Vancouver, there was a handwritten sign above it reading "This is 7.62x39 ammunition. No matter what the box appears to read, there is no 7.62x43 ammunition."

I guess they got tired of the same question you posed :)

It actually says 7.62-43. 7.62x39 is not military nomenclature, it is used by civilians to differentiate between 7.62 cartridges. The militaries of the world use there own system, such as the year of adoption, ie 1943.
I get asked this every day.

Well thank you very much everyone, you guys were very helpful! One more question i read i could apply a little bit of wd-40 to the gun after i'm done shooting and that will buy me some time to get home and give her a good cleaning or is it not that corrosive and i have plenty of time to get home and clean her? I don't know..so many different opinions!

I left mine for four days and by the time I got to it the gas piston rod was starting to rust . The barrel if chinese won't be any worse for wear but the other parts need attention. I don't leave my SKS's uncleaned for anytime at all now. Steel wool and car engine combustion chamber cleaner will take rust off. Cheap surplus ammo is the way to go. How else can you shoot 300 rounds a day?
