Crates of sks's ?

Go to a gun show. Last summer in the Ft. Mac. Gun Show there was a seller with crates of sks's. Can't remember who they were though.

Yep, assuming a dealer can get a crate of 'em. Out of the idlest of curiosity, what do you want a crate of 'em for?

Last week i was told at Calgary Shooting Centre that they still had a few crates of Russian refurbs left in back. They are being sold for $200 each...dunno if they will sell a whole crate at once but you could ask...

When I was at The Calgary Shooting Centre on Sunday, they had a couple or three crates on the floor, only one had been cracked open at the time...

Same question occurred to me... But then, if I had the spare $$ I'd buy a couple crates of SKS's, a couple crates of Mosins, and a couple crates of SVT-40's... Because I'm old enough to remember surplus Enfield's being sold by the crate at per pound scrap value, and if I'd been old enough/had the money/foresight at the time, I'd have loaded up on them, and be able to retire comfortably selling them off at the current going rate.

Make no mistake, no matter how common Red Rifles seem to be now, that was the case with Enfield's back in the late 70's through most of the 80's.

It seems a few guys who work for me want some so the easiest thing seemed like buying a whole crate. If I could get them for around $150 per rifle it would be two crates. Gotta love the oil patch money to burn.

Buying in bulk with your buddies is a great idea, my buddies and I, 30 of us to be exact, did this 2 weeks ago in Edmonton. Milarm will sell a crate of 15 sks's for 150 a rifle plus tax, so we bought 2 crates from them. They were Russian with hardwood stocks, ranging in years from 1950 to 1954, all were from Tula, except one that was from Izhevsk. They came with oilers, ammo pouches, cleaning kits, and stripper clips but no slings. All were in awesome shape once we all clean or individual rifle.

PS. You also feel pretty awesome loading 30 rifles in the back of your truck at once in 2 large green soviet era crates, I mean really who wouldn't want to do that? You feel like you are acting out a seen from Lord of War!

I've been thinking about getting my first SKS. The local store has them with all the accessories for $179.
I really like the Mosin, have never even fired a SKS.

You phrased that right when you said "...first SKS..." because it will likely be followed by more.

Bought my "first" SKS last summer, (a Tula), so much fun to shoot. My first gun buy of the year is going to be another one (one of the Chinese, probably), that I'm going to trick out a bit with a Wartak rail (or similar) and a scope, couple other upgrades, and turn it into a Coyote/Truck gun. Just waiting for the finances to recover from Xmas, followed by my wife's B-Day and my daughter's B-Day. All three of those fall within a month, and my finances don't recover until the end of February.

Great rifles. Reliable and tough as tanks. Reasonably accurate, generally. With open sights I can get 5 out of 5 on an 8 inch bulls-eye at 100 yards, which is as good as I can shoot open sights, so the gun is probably more accurate than I am. Cheap to shoot, if you're using the surplus. If you're using commercial soft points, a very valid hunting option for everything up to Deer. Recoil on the level of a pistol calibre carbine.

What's not to love?

A couple of crates of sks's is probably a better investment than buying stocks or rrsps. Should have bought enfields years ago. Would have made more $$ on them than my investments have!
