You're not supposed to let EVERYONE know how much fun you're having or they'll all want to do it, right Dogleg? Besides not everyone's best look is smiling, certainly not mine, no one would recognize me.

He's right! I was going through our pics from last summer and there was this happy looking big guy standing in front of his car . . . it took me a minute to realize who it was . . . until I recognized the car.
 
Love watching the interesting turns a thread can take...started out talking about the tiny 6.5 calibre and now we are talking buff hunting...there was a major deviation in this road somewhere....lol But ya, that buff does have some long hair now that you mention it.
 
Sheep........I was thinking exactly the same thing as I typed it, what the heck does the length of hair on a cape buffalo have to do with the 6.5 Creedmore? For that matter why is there even a photo of a cape buff in a 6.5 Creed thread? Talk about derailed..............

Why not, Bell shot elephants with a 6.5X54 MS for a short while, now all we have to do is find a PH that'll let us try the Creedmore with 156 gn solid..........I happen to have about 2000 of the original military bullets for the Swede, dual dia 156 gn steel jacketed, nickel covered. What do say Sheep will your rifle stabilize 156 gn RN? Totally back on track now and able to include elephants in a 6.5 thread, how 'bout that !!!
 
Your CM in an 8 twist will handle 156's with no problem... Not so much the buff... Could be done I suppose, just not by me!

Ha indeed the twists and turns of a thread can be quite something, and I'm afraid I'm at fault. The buffalo is from Zimbabwe, and indeed they had long, coarse dark hair. Almost makes me wish I mounted it, he's a Euro though.

Bingo! A properly placed shot with a 160gr. FMJ will do the trick inside of 100 yds. or so.
IE: Base of the neck where it joins to the back of the skull.

I shot two different 7-08's the other day, one with 139gr Interlock SP's @ 2650 fps and a 2nd with 139gr SST's @ 2675 fps. Both zero'd @ 200y that same day, next took them both out to 630 yards and found the 139SP hit 18" (3moa) lower than the SST. BC can make a big difference. Rifles were a Sako85 Finnlight (20.25" brl) and an Xbolt Micro Midas (20" tube)

point is, the bullet profile makes more difference than the caliber/muzzle velocity, easy to compare apples to oranges. Put a low BC bullet in a 6.5 creedmoor and its gonna be a dog downrange, put a sleek bullet in a 308 and it does pretty good.
 
my friend has a Mtn Ascent in 280 and took the brake off after a few rounds. Seems odd they would even offer such a thing on a light rifle chambered in standard ctg's. I still would like a Mtn A..but have a hard time wanting a 308. Don't want to be labeled a fudd :D could rechamber to 30-6.5 Creedmoor......
