CRF Alternatives

Another vote for the CZ 550. At least in my case, the modifications where minimal and quite cheap. I had Rick at Alberta Tactical here in Calgary bed it and add a cross bolt. Rich also corrected the sad attempt with the pillar mounting the factory produced. We fussed a bit with the bedding, but I now think a bum scope caused most of our grief. The only other thing I did was sit on the couch and cycle the bolt back and forth while watching a period of hockey. The action was disturbingly rough out of the box, but was pretty slick after that. Feeding was smooth right out of the box. The CZ factory with install a 3 position saftey if you want. I didn't bother.

I did opt for the American model with a laminated stock because I wanted a bit more stock stability when traveling and don't like fibreglass. The laminated stock is also a bit heavier than the wood, which I thought was a good idea as I'd never shot a big bore before. After a couple hundred rounds and a few animals, I'm getting pretty used to the level of recoil and have thought about a lighter set up. However, the rifle shoots well enough that I don't want to mess with it. Besides, way better for me to loose a pound off the waist than a pound off the rifle :)
