Has anyone used something like a Lee factory crimp die to squeeze the base of a plain base cast bullet small enough to apply a gas check? Outside neck diameter of a .270 Win is .308, does the Lee factory crimper bring a bullet base down far enough to apply a GC?

I see no one has replied to a very sensible question, so here goes.
The short answer is no. It is a very bad idea, because the cast bullet would be distorted, thus inaccurate.
Just shoot plain base and you may get about 1900 fps, before the gas pressure blows by them, also causing inaccuracy.
Don't worry about your barrel leading as rifle barrels are usually microscopically smooth and the lead doesn't adhere to them.

you can squeeze gas checks on plain base bullets but you need properly sized gas checks and the proper nose punch to push the bullets in the sizer gas check up.
I have done this but in 358 caliber

It would not be a standard tool or die to do this. Typically the bullets are cast with a step in the base to take the GC. To squeeze the lead such that you get a step and still maintain the flat base instead of the squeezed metal forming a cupped base would require a pretty special swaging die. Oh sure, you COULD use a sort of wire crimper like tool to form the step. But the lead had to go somewhere. And that somewhere will be in the form of a raised ridge around the base.
