crimping gas checks without sizing

I have ordered some 300 grain Hunters supply bullets ( with the rebated base but no gas checks installled ) and some Hornady gas checks to try in my Whelan. I have never applied gas checks before.
The bullets a are .359 and I do not want to size them smaller.
What would be my best approach.
My options as I see it them are

1= order a custom .359 bullet sizing die from lee
2= order a die and .359 bushing kit from NOE
3= order a .338 Lee collet crimp bullet seating die

I did order a Whelan collet seating die but I would think that cannot be made to work. Perhaps I should get a .360 bullet sizing die

Does any body have any advice on the best way to go.

I at this point have no intention of boolit casting, just playing around. Of course, that could change.
I am leaning toward option 1 but would welcome any advice from more experienced loaders

Thanks in advance

I use lee push through sizing dies as well as the Lyman/ Rcbs lubsizer types. They both work. Last year I ordered a custom size push through die from Lee that they shipped directly to me in Canada and found the price good and it came quite fast. The Lee is very easy to work with especially when one can use your regular loading press. I know of guys who will buy the off the shelf lee dies and open it up to required size but I have never done it. I think all in the custom made die cost me around $60 Canadian delivered.

You can use a Lyman 450 with the appropriate calibre sizing die (any dia. that you have) along with a Lyman Gas Check Seater. This device installs over the adjusting screw and prevents the boolit from entering the die far enough to size but does seat/crimp the gas check.

I had a 35 Whelan (sorry not to have it anymore GREAT caliber) and only used cast bullets, 250-290 gr. I also did not want to size my slugs. You should have received a small "cut out" piece of tubing with the sizer that is made for limiting the amount you push the bullet into the die and is MADE to JUST install the check. I opened up my sizer die to .359 so if I really wanted to size, that would be possible.
I'm sure LEE makes (or made) a 35 Whelan collet die that can easily be set up to JUST size the case neck AND ALSO leave the neck flared/expanded for easy seating of a cast bullet ALL IN 1 STROKE. I modified my 308 collet die and fired thousands upon thousands of cast bullets, having the neck expanded. If you want to PM me perhaps I can mail you a sketch of how to modify your LEE COLLET DIE so you don't have to expand your case neck. Also you can slightly open up your sizer die, not a perfect as performed by a machinist but it works well enough for cast bullets, with fine sand paper and a dowel.

Check on the EE, there is a guy from SASK(?) that does custom work for cast bullet sizers. Sorry I can't remember his name.

Thanks everyone

I had completely overlooked ( forgotten ) that i would need to expand the necks. One more thing to buy.
Maybe I should look into buying a lyman sizer.

I will sent you a PM Big Boar. I am assuming you are talking about a collet neck sizing die and not the bullet seating die
