Crimson Trace Lazer Grips... Gimmick?

No i havnt. Just received it, its 500 lumens compared to 200 in the X300. Its quite bright, but its more of a novelty, as i cant legally shoot in the dark.

If you want one the X300 Ultra goes for 345 bux, thats shipping and taxes. I bought mine from Daves Surplus and Tactical.

I'm curious as to what range/distance you can readily identify a person with it. I suspect like the X200 the beam is very focused offering greater throw which is what I'm after.

As i just said, at 100 feet ( im aproxamating) i can see the other side of the road to the trees quite clear.

I bought it for my G22 RTF2 that i just got from Police Ordnance. So i havnt tryed it on the gun, but just took it outside now and its really bright.

I've tried lasers, meh. MAYBE useful as a training tool, but I couldn't see it at all past 10 yards. Crimson Trace on my Beretta. Unless you can get them super cheap used I wouldn't bother.

I am of the opposite opinion of TDC. Lasers have their place, under high stress situations they work fantastic and bad guys stop pretty quick when painted with a little dot, its a language they really understand regardless of what language they speak. Crimson trace are expensive as they are high quality and the shorter the barrel of the revolver or pistol the better effect the laser has of getting the projectile on target. Of course in Canada they are useless, but in many other places of the world they are not so useless.

I agree. But just for target shooting in O' Canada, they're more of a novelty.

what they do do at the range is help a guy hit paper more often when practicing a variety of holds, there is something to be said for initially sight training to help confirm proprioception (where your body is in space) again this does lead back to real use scenarios.

Can be an excellent training assist. Makes coaching easier.
We sometimes have low light/nightime matches. Very effective.

x2!!! very fun to watch someone shoot and you really see where the last place the laser was at, followed by bullet impact. Really good at helping you out to coach someone else.

I personally don't own one... my brother does, I find its fun as hell! OP, You make good money, says Fort Mcmurray in your location... Cmonnnnnn! DO IT! :D

EDIT: I forgot to answer your original question about how well it works in daylight. Firing on paper targets mid day sunny/cloudy its very doable. I could guess if the sun was shinning off the paper it could maybe be a problem, but everytime i went out it worked like it was supposed to.

Lots of good feedback / opinions above
I have two sets of Crimson Trace Grips
One set came factory from S&W on a 1911
Other set i got aftermarket and put on a 686
Yes, probably more of a novelty than anything i suppose, however they do seem to work quite well.
I have no problem in daylight, used them at the outdoor range a few times.
certainly gives one another perspective.
I can certainly see where IF a person required their firearm for duty use it might be a nice addition depending on circumstances.(no experience here, just an observation)
just my two cents...
