EDIT: I incorporated some design suggestions, redesign below

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of bringing my company into the arms game and I'd like to know CGN's opinion of our first stock for the Ruger 10/22.

Below you will find some screen caps of the stock in its solid model form, and as the title states, it's going into prototype this week. If there is interest, I can update the thread as it progresses.

I know some people dislike this style of stock, but feel free to comment or critique any aspect you can think of from form to functionality. Please keep it constructive.

Specs:

BSC MK4 10/22:

- CNC Machined body and components from 6061-T6 AL with the utmost in rigidity and accuracy.
- Flat black anodized finish. (more color options may become available depending on interest).
- All rails shown are included with the kit. (VFG not included).
-Stock length (minus ar buttstock) 16.6"
-Stock Width: 1.75"
-Upper rail: 15"
-Bottom rail Lenght: 7"
-Minimum barrel length for non-restricted: 11" (with ar buttstock collapsed, 7.75" typ.)
-AR grips, AR buttstock
-Assembly/Dissasembly to retrive 10/22 action/barrel, 6 hex cap screws (all the same size)
-Top quality customer service
-5-15 Business day delivery
-Estimated retail price $295
-And most importantly: CANADIAN MADE

Please note: these screencaps lack some finishing touches (such as mounting hardware). Also note the stock appears to be thicker than it actually is. Dimensionally, the forend is 1.75" wide.

We also have an M14 stock in the works under the same design philosophy...

Thank you for looking! We appreciate any feedback you may have!

I would like to see a slimmer, rounder buttstock. At this is a 22cal. there is no need to the 2 bars holding the buttpad on. One strong oen will suffice. Also the buttpafd look square and wide. My shoulder is not shapped like that. My 2c

If you're already going with the AR grip why not go with the colapsible CAR style buttstock also? Your looks very blocky and square, as drvrage said and I don't think my shoulder looks like that either. How is the barrel supported, you can't just hang a bull barrel out in space except maybe an ER Shaw 11" or something. Maybe a bug screw tuner hiding in there or something to give the barrel some support. I think you need to round out the forend as a round barrel out of a square hole looks a little off. What length barrel is needed to keep it legal? If that buttstock is removeable there are going to be OAL issues there also.

I would like the longer stock design too.
I would also be much more likely to buy if it was (at least) adaptable to take an AR15 buttstock.

Just for comparison, what barrel length is used in the model?

new stock flaws

The stock design is not condusive to a comfortable cheek weld.
Put an AR stock socket on it instead - more versatile.
Pistol grip - to narrow for pad trigger contact for adults - I would be lucky if I could use my distal joint . Put an AR grip mount on it so those with bigger hands could shoot properly using the myriad of after market grips.
Put an allan screw in the rear of the rail to stabilize on the receiver. An ideal location would be to screw into the existing rear scope mount hole.
Make it cheaper than the similar stocks already available.
The above will increase sales ---

That's something we've considered, but went for a more unique look. But if the general consensus is for AR15 buttstocks, we'll change it up. For reference, the barrel shown is 14in, which will be the minimum length for the 26" OAL with the stock adjusted all the way in.

The buttstock will not be removable, only adjustable. If AR buttstocks are what everyone wants, we can change that up for sure. The barrel support is being addressed.

the stock is actually slimmer than it looks in the pictures. the buttsock is 2.25" wide and the stock itself is only 1.75" wide. The two bars are there for asthetics and since they're aluminum they're very light. Also for durability reasons (dropped by accident, rough treatment etc..)

Thanks for the suggestions,

Looks like everyone prefers the AR15 stock options. As you suggested, its going to be using AR15 grips. The grip shown is not modeled to scale.

Great idea with the rail stabilizer!

i have the rhineland arms with the slider stock and i like it but you need an 18" barrel with it when its all the way in to meet the 26" criteria. Mine is a skinnier piece by looking at your image. Just like a mp5. How long is the front part of the stock? Hehe Is there any way to make it look more like an mp5?
Good to see more stocks for the 10/22.

It looks a whole lot like a EVO stock who slept with a Rhineland Arms stock...

Haha, yes it does. Thats because I love the look of both of these, and they're made using mfg processes we have.

The front section (grip to end of stock) is 15"

front of ejection port to fornt of stock is 8.25"

As for making it more like an mp5... maybe in the future? we'll what people want.

Increasing the length is no problem if that's the consensus.

In your picture i'm not sure i like the shape/placement of the grip. I looks too far back.... can you make a pic with the grip and trigger forward alittle bit?

Also I personally dis-like the boxy-ness of the fore-end, it just looks like a brick to me. My suggestion would be elimnate the 6 o'clock rail and round off fore-end similar to the rhineland one.

I personally like the slider stock design, if i could i would give the stock plate a bit of a curvature.... just to make it a bit easier to shoulder than the flat plate.

I'm much more partial to the rhineland kit over the evo kit in the sense of looks, if you ever started producing your own cloned versions of the rhineland stock... i would buy one right now :D.

Will you be inletting them for the Remington 597 action as well? That market is ripe for someone who produces a tactical style stock to take advantage of.

i'd do a mockup wiht the 25 rd mags to get a better look at the template.

EDIT: added pics to the OP.

Great Idea!

That is a definite possibility for the near future.

this totally changes the presentation of your mockup :)

...another recommendation is to design a stock that doesn't require replacement barrel to make it look better / appropriate. A simple drop will be well received :)

Not trying to be a downer, but regardless of how pretty it may be, a useless stock makes for a useless rifle. The twin strut design just doesn't look terribly comfortable for shooting.

Yes, I realize every ####### and his brother make CAR stocked or folding stocked designs. It's because they work.

My $.02 and likely worth far less.

Yeah it does change the look somewhat. Ill mess around and make some mockups with the stock barrel and post them in a bit.

Here's a ROUGH mockup with an AR stock.
