Crosman 2240, 2289, 1377... any common QC issues?

Anybody here who owns, or has owned either a Crosman 1377, 2240, or 2289 have any observations regarding common quality control problems with these guns?

I really want to buy a 2289, but I know how picky I am, and I seem to be frequently disappointed in the lack QC in many things I buy these days.

I have read about parts not lining up (ie, breach being tilted on the tube due to holes not being drilled at 12 o'clock, etc). I realize that the breech is plastic, and I plan to replace it with a steel one, so that is a non issue. Any loose, parts, fit issues?

Any observations or advice?

2289 is pretty solid. I got one with a steel breech. There are some simple mods you can do to give it more power but still be under 500fps. Mine shoots very close to 480fps at 10 pumps.

If you get one and get tinkering on it, look for a company called Scopes and Ammo. He can get you factory parts or aftermarket parts like a Flat top piston, a solid pin to replaced the roll pin in the pump linkage, stuff like that.

If you really get bit by the airgun bug, think about joining the Canadian Airgun Forum. They have a modification section that will cover about anything you need.

Killa.... Any idea what exactly is causing the sight to be crooked? Is something drilled off-center?
 
What about the 795? I know its a POS but its fun to shoot pop cans with when your bored. And whats the deal witht he little plastic breech? is it supposed to be offset a little?

The front sight is pressure fitted on the 2240 but the barrel has a flat spot milled into it for the site, The spot was milled at like 1 o'clock instead of 12 but it was an easy fix.
 
I've got a 2289, it was patterning like a shotgun, then I removed the front sight, and they tightened up nicely. The plastic must be acting like a bad crown. if you put 1 pump of air into it before putting it away for the day the seals will last longer because they stay shut and keep dirt and dust out. I've got an old pump air rifle from probably 20 years ago, the seals are still good because the owner stored it pressurized.

this is not really a quality control issue, but a design issue, the forward action screw that holds the bolt action in place is a very fine threaded screw, it would be easy to strip the female threads on the tube it happened to me before. This screw has to be removed to change the seals for the transfer port.
 
You have to work through it

My Mark 1 was seized up so replaced it with a 2240. What a letdown. The front sight was on crooked so I bought a red dot and the mounts. Still couldn't hit a thing with Crosman premier hollow points. Bought a set of seals for the Mark 1 and got it working like new. Tried the premiers, still looked more like a shotgun pattern. Tried the Daisy's from Walmart. Presto. Both guns shooting like Olympic 10 meter. The 2240 still has a totally gross trigger. Take it apart and with a bit of elbow grease smooth out the rough edges on the trigger parts. The Mark 1 is a great gun but at my age (original owner) cannot focus on the sights and the target at the same time. With the trigger smoothed out and the red dot the 2240 is now the go to gun ( as long as you buy the cheap Daisy's from Walmart). How could anybody have guessed any of this?
