Hey guys-my search for a no-nonsense pigeon blaster has hit another road block. lol Won't bore you with the history, but I thought I was doing myself a favor by buying this PAL-rated pumper off the EE. No springs, no gas tanks, no CO2-just like the 1377 I grew up with and put a million rounds through. Bought it months ago, but only shot it on the weekend for the first time.

1.pumping effort is insanely high, I could only get 5/8 pumps out of it before the pumping effort was well past the point of being an enjoyable experience.

2.attempting to zero the scope @ 20 yards (2 pellet types) the groups were ridiculously large. zeroing the scope (or attempting to) made no sense after 20 minutes of this futility. All I did is wear myself out and question why I bother with airguns anymore. :)

Reading online, these could be related. I've read that if the pumping effort is that great there is likely something wrong. I'm 5'11", 265lbs., and work with my hands. I don't consider myself weak, likely stronger than the average middle-aged office worker. lol I know a PAL rated gun won't operate like a toy, but I was straining to get 5. I read a reference to a product for lubricating, anyone use this before?;

Read that some people have broken the hinge pins on these guns due to the excessive pumping effort not being addressed. I can't imagine Crosman would even make an airgun that requires Brock Lesnar-like strength to pump. (read one a forum someone describing it that way, lol)

Open to ideas, and about ready to toss this thing in the junk pile one outing-in. lol Kidding aside, if there is a fix...I'll take a crack at it. Yet another air rifle that disappoints, the list is growing. This gun is effectively brand-new condition wise.

Hoping someone has some input/advice.

thanks!

Buy an HW you won’t be disappointed. The under lever is the easiest to ####, all PAL rated

That helps with the Crosman 392 challenge. lol Thanks 45, I've tried a couple of non-PAL rated Diana's. Nice guns, hold-sensitive. Any air rifle I pick for this ends-up in some smelly spots on every outing, really looking for an economic solution that has the power/consistency. Pride of ownership will play no part. lol

I would say contact Crosman Canada. Sounds like the seals are giving you resistance, or issue inside the valve.

Are you using the clamp on scope mounts? I found I needed to use vise grips to have them actually clamp down. My 312 was hard to pump after 5.

Hey OkayShooter-the gun was wearing one of these mounts when I bought it; https://www.bakerairguns.com/product/one-piece-scope-mount-benjamin-397-392-air-rifles/

I don't think the gun is actually well-suited to scope use, that tiny bolt lifts nearly to a 90 degree position before you can pull it back to ####/load. Any scope on one of these guns has to ride pretty high to clear it. It is solid though!

I just googled hard pumping a 392 and a post came up which may be of help to you. After reading it myself I think my 392 could use some lube. Mine was made in the mid 2000s as it has the cast trigger versus the older one. The valve also does not require the tool needed in older models.
Not sure if it is ok to directly link other forums so added a space.

I ran mine over the chrony and got this using RWS Superdomes
Pumps
2 - 395 fps
3 - 470 fps
4 - 520 fps
5 - 565 fps
6 - 600 fps
7 - 625 fps
8 - 649 fps

I generally only do 2 or 3 as after five pumps I find it isn’t much fun. I have other high power break barrels in the 800’s good luck with yours. I more or less just use mine as a basement plinker and don’t try for max velocity with it.

If your really stuck, you can ship it to me and I’ll see if I can fix it. I seem to have good luck fixing old pellet guns. Len from CGN shipped me his very rare Daisy Defender, and I was able to fix it and even install a 3D printed rear sight for him.

I have fixed many air guns and sell many different seal kits on ebay under xtc_jerad. PM me if interested.
