Excuse me if I don't have the correct term, but I'm carving wood out of a piece of walnut for my Tikka, and would like to put in a piece of metal across the inletting for the action to hold onto, similar as to what was installed from factory, but instead of a piece of steel dropped into wood plastic, it would be like a bolt that does through the stock. What's the term for this, where would I find one, and any tips on how to get the location right the first time?

Plan is to get that in and then bed the stock, though I have nothing against pillar bedding.

Or, any suggestions on what you would use alternatively if this is against your preferences?

Are you talking about the recoil lug? You may be able to use a Mauser recoil lug, but you will have to fit to lug to the receiver.

Fwiw the original Mauser 98 crossbolts are square where they abut the action lug.... Otoh the ones used by Sako are round.. They both seem to function

You know what, I figure I'm being kind of vague, what I mean to say is there a cross bolt like on the mauser that functions also as a recoil lug for the tikka
