Crossbow question

As mentioned. Excalibur for its simplicity to work on yourself if need be including string adjust for string stretch. You can also purchase a crank for the excalibur as well and a new model has the crank built in. Also Excalibur has lifetime warranty.

For me. Cocked before the treestand. Once settled and legal light bolt is nocked and stays that way till I'm ready to leave the stand.

One additional advice... be extra attentive to where the bolt is pointed especially if the crossbow is pointed downward. Stay clear of your foot.

Also careful not to nick the bow string. But that's what's great about the Excalibur, you can change out the string yourself.

I #### mine then case it. Once legal light hits i uncase and knock a bolt. It stays that way until i return home.
Tested over a chronograph a quick #### and fire nets the same velocity as being cocked for 28 hours

Mine is ready to shoot the minute I leave the truck..always remove the arrow when climing up the stand.never had a problem leaving it cocked all day and a few times for over a week.

People have no issue killing animals when using compound bows so the extra movement of loading a crossbow bolt when an animal appears isn't really a big deal. I just question the idea of intentionally creating the need for more movement when an animal appears.

What's the lifespan of a crossbow ? I am liking the simplicity of the recurve type.

With the recurve does one just change string at the right intervals and that's it or are there other wear parts that need replacing every couple of years. ( eg. Limbs)

I can only speak on behalf of my Excalibur Micro 335. I've had it for 4 years now and have yet to change the factory string. Come deer bow season I just adjust the string to factory brace length and that's it. I do keep a spare string on hand just in case the string gets damaged or becomes overly twisted.

My 415gr bolts averages 310 fps over my Chrony.

If I was to do it again... I'd still buy another Excalibur but the 355 Micro instead. As for the Excalibur Tact Zone scope... cheap, optical quality is just ok within bow range and low light image is not the best. I haven't bother to up grade cause it's used maybe twice a year and at 40 yards or less.

Plus lifetime warranty can't be beat and I hear their customer service to is top notch.

If you are wondering if keeping a crossbow loaded is safe just think about your rifle in the same sense. Do you rifle hunt with and unloaded rifle? NO, so do not hunt with an unloaded Xbow either.

I have the micro 355 , wife got it for me last christmas but haven't hunted with it yet. Still in practice mode but hopefully next year I'll head out for a bow season. Was good advice i got here from cgn'ers that made me decide on the 355. Sure beats my old Barnett Demon that I had in the late 90's.
