Crossbows, solution(s) required for a lady hunter.

Thanks RyanB, I had signed up on that forum and was awaiting my accounts activation.

We are still working on a solution to our problem. We just located a Phoenix for my wife to try and ####. Fingers crossed that she can #### this model, if not, we will be trying to locate a Vixen for her to try...

Cheers
Jay

You guys could come down to Cornwall and try the whole xcal line, including the taget model as well as a few Parkers and Hortons. Rainbow Sports Supply has them all in the shop right now AND they have a 20 yard indoor range to boot.

I own an older Exocet and have spent time shooting the Exomag, Horton 150 and Horton 175. The Horton crossbows are both a lot easier to pull than the Exocet. You should give the Horton crossbows a try.

Hey Guys, Fran tried cocking the Phoenix, she was SOO CLOSE, but it's a NO GO... She's pretty bummed out about it cause it was the one she liked. We are now looking for a Vixen to try out. Geez, we hope she can #### the Vixen...

Cheers

Even with shortening the cocking aid a bit the Phoenix to too tall? That's too bad. You must be really close. If you just put something like a book or a piece of wood about an inch thick on the stirrup but under your foot (by the way are you wearing your hunting boots - perhaps even their thickness will give you the extra height) you might get that last little bit of pull.

What about the unorthodox? Think outside the box type stuff. If you made up something to place in the stirrup, that you could stand on, and get additional height.
For example, if you solidly bolted a 2X4 to the floor of the stand, and then, you could stand on something to get the additional height.
Something could be made up that was portable too, although you would want to be very careful. If the crossbow slides off the end, before it's at full ####, it can hurt bad. I had mine slide off my boot once. Not nice. Be sure your foot is all the way into the stirrup. Same for any gadget you might dream up.

Thanks for the replies guys, we are taking in all the info and trying to solve this problem. The main reason that Fran wants to be able to run her own bow is that in the "worst case scenario" a bad shot could leave an animal disabled from a spine shot... And Fran would be unable to #### her own bow to finish the job...

We used the crankaroo and Fran could #### the 225 lb model with it, so we realize that is the route she could go, but both of us found the crankaroo cumbersome and a pain in the a$$, so we'd rather avoid it...

Soooo I tried and I tried...

I tried 3 different times to #### it with nothing than the rope cocking aid.

I tried standing on a wooden block while Jay stood on the stirrup for me... I was pulling it up and away from him and I still could not #### it. I found that combersome since I didn't feel like the bow was an extention on my leg by placing my foot in the stirrup. Since I was pulling it away while he was holding it down with his strength... I don't think it was my strength that was the issue... again height... so then I...

I got down on the floor of the shop and I tried sitting down and pulling it... like doing a "row" in the gym... and it got closer... like 1cm away so then I tried placing my feet on the limbs while Jay held onto it incase it flew... I was ooooonly 1/2 cm away from cocking it...

It was a comedy of errors sort of speak. I gave everyone in the gun room a good chuckle. It was obvious to everyone I just wasn't tall enough. I had a pair thick soled heavy tread hiker like winter boots on... HMPH! I hope I am tall enough for the Vixon. The crankeroo worked... heck I cocked a 225lb bow with it... but what happens if it gets hooked up. It did last night at the shop. The guy helping us had a hard time uncocking a big bow beacuse the crankeroo didn't work properly.

Hunting wise, I haven't had a bad shot yet but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen... So I am on my way to find a Vixon somewhere around here...I am just not tall enough. BUT HEY.... atleast I'm never taller than my hubsband when I wear heels...

Thanks for listening...
Fran

Why not take a small length of 2x4 (approx 2-3' long) and cut a small groove across the width (about 1") and put the stirrup in the groove and stand on the board? It would give you the added length to #### it and the stability to not knock yourself out. Just my $0.02 Good luck with your dilemna.

Jay, i purchased an Exomax from Larry and don't plan on buying any archery equipment from anyone else. The bonus of buying from south nation is that they actually care. Stay away from Lebaron, they're a bunch of inbreds that charge to assemble the xbow, Larry has it built and and sights it in with you. Hope you and the wife find the match you are looking for, stick with Excalibur, it naturally hates deer!

Hey John Y, still looking 4 a Vixen 2 try... Gotta see if Huntress can do it up!

Anyone know where a Vixen is, local 2 Ottawa???

Thanks
Jay
