Crossing the border with Pinned magazines

I am posting this here instead of in legalize becuase it is really mostly only applicable to black rifles.
If I ordered a bunch of 30 rnd mags (eg: PMAGS) to a PO box in the states, and drove down with a rivet gun and pinned the mags to 5 rounds, could they then be driven across the border? Would border services impound them on principle alone?
 
To my knowledge, Canada Customs would not have a problem with it. The problem lies with US laws restricting export of Firearm(s), Part(s) & Ammo(or any part thereof). If you were to make it to a Canadian port and cleared to enter country with said pinned mags, remember they may function test them, all would end well. In the event you were searched on exit which is becoming more common, you would be exporting without a permit(there is a list of companies approved to have their products exported that you can get permits for) and that is a felony charge making it punishable by up to 3 years fedral time.

Short versionL: call marstar, P&D ent., or ANYBODY that has the BS finished and the product here.

There are alot of people here more learned in the finer points of import, perhaps put up a post on the legal forum.

You would be committing a felony in the US, exporting parts without the proper documents is illegal.

CBSA could care less, pinned magazines are not prohibited devices in Canada.
 
You may have a problem with CBSA, over whether or not the magazines are adequately converted. Others have. CBSA is a power unto itself.
 
as above you REQUIRE us export permits to exoprt them

if you not an American you cannot get them

get caught and you face from a stern warning to years in jail and millions in fines you a gambling man? all for the sake of saving maybe $50.00 bucks?



Canada customs also makes it in rules up and in the past has siezed mags pinned with a rivit as NOT being permenatly altered.......


basically buy them from a shop here in canada or here in the EE
 
why not go to the states and then just mail them to you here? it they get caught at the border - no skin off your sack so-to-speak ,
cannot prove it was you who mailed them to yourself.
if you get a weird letter saying border inspect. or something to that effect has a package for you - walk away.
all youre out is the cash.

all this being said, if they are pinned to 5 rounds before you mail them - I do believe they are fine for import.
 
Because you're still breaking the law.

While I'm not a lawyer (nor do I play one on TV) you're talking about doing some stuff that can get you in trouble and you're doing it on a public group. Probably not a smart thing to do.

just take them apart and bring them back as mag kits.

until you get added to the no fly list and flagged for entry into the U.S. Next thing you know your alone in a back room marked "extra questioning" and all you can smell is latex......................
 
Well, I think whats needed is some sort of Company that will do just this sort of thing. Instead of waiting around for the manufacturers to get of their behinds.

I think there are few such companies listed above.

I think this thread should be in the legal section as it kinda self-incriminates a CGN'er who is planning to break the law. I think that the public information here from fellow members is enough to avoid getting in trouble. Ignorance is not excuse and from what Ive heard the US take this export stuff very seriously.

My 2 cents is to buy Canadian or on the EE here. There are PMags all over the place in Canada.

We all just have to suck it up ... a $15USD item will resell for $55CAD (once neutered) it sucks but thats what we have to accept.
Not worth the potential hassle IMHO :(

What are you saying?????????? that its not worth risking 100k in legal fees for the chance to save $35????????????

Of course you wouldn't have warrants served on you....like the guy in Poco with the gun store :rolleyes: Unless the value was under $100 AND the exporter filed an exemption, you'd be screwed at the border, you're not just breaking US laws, you're breaking ITAR regulations (UN Laws).

And they will all post in this thread now explaining why it is so hard for them, and that we don't understand business, and the necessity of marking that pmag up over 300%, even with the US dollar high. Anyone EVER notice a price drop?

kind of funny that I'm seeing ads for Pmags for $25 each new over the border. so why are they so high here since gun parts are duty free. personally I wouldn't pay more then $35cdn for them here. Opps I'm wrong just seen an ad for pmags $15. each on RRA web site.

I get mixed stories when it comes to the $100. exemption the ATF has. it depends on who tells you and what you are buying. does anyone here really know what the straight poop is? I know barrels & receivers are out.

I could give a rats behind for the ITAR regs and UN laws. They can go smoke pig pole for all I am concerned. Mind you I respect the US laws. Even if I don't agree with them.
