Crow hunting... Anyone in the "century club"?

crows

Whats the point of killing 100 crows in one day? Did they carry off your baby?

Come to SW Ontario- particularly Chatham Kent .and I'll show you the purpose in shooting 100 crows a day . A 1000 a day wouldn't be enough. A group of local hunters attempted to get a day for a crow shooting contest/cull. When the sky turns black because of crows , they tend to have the same value as coyotes.

Gymbo ! My hunting buddy and I are into crow shooting,we have shot so many in our area only the smart ones are left.Would you take 2 guys on a hunt.We do not have fly ways were we hunt so we just hit bush after bush.

As a crow shooter what do you do with a hundred crows in one place, after they are dead???

Very good question. I've only broken the 100 mark once in my life...a solo hunt early fall where I shot 166. That was on crown land and I picked up all the visable ones and bushed them as I didn't want to "advertize". Just leave them where they fall if out of sight. Shot lots of 40's and 50's since but never came close to the 100 mark again.

I also shoot down my decoys when done as simply tie two dead crows together by the necks with a short length of dark twine. Toss this up into the branches and instant biodegradable deeks.

Started hunting crows in the early 1970's with my dad and uncle. He always picked up all the dead and put them in the box of his 1965 Mercury half ton. I would then as a kid sit in the back of the box as my old man slowly drove down a country road and toss a crow into the ditch every hundred yards or so...if ya can believe that!

IMO there is no bird more challenging to hunt that the common crow. Smart beyond belief, moreso than any duck or goose and capable of amazing aerial manouvers... but his inherant search for trouble is his undoing.

Most of my hand calls have now been shelved for backup and today FoxPro is my best friend!

You need to familiarize yourself with the regs crows and magpies can be "killed anytime" as well as others on the list.

YEP! No closed season, and no bag limit:):) They are a pest and treated as so. (in B.C)

I have never personally went crow hunting , I know there is a guy in the area who tries to organize a big day of Crow shooting, when I hear of it I will post it in the forum and let evyone know , if that helps.

Keep in mind we have ttree huggers here as well , but people are fed up with crows.

Aw, crows are so cute - just like the cute little gophers in southern Saskatchewan.............. right? I agree on the black ba$tard$ being hard on songbirds. Blaze away boys!!:p

Would anybody care to tell us more about their setups? Location (general, not specific), time of day, time of year, calling, decoys, placement, blinds or camo, etc.

When I go out we set up about 5 yards into the bush overlooking a field. We all pick a big tree to stand behind and set the caller in the centre. I find the best time to hunt them is from 4 pm onwards and try to intercept the birds as they are heading to their roost for the evening. The shooting gets fast and furious if you have a large population. I have also never used decoys as we just prop some of the dead birds up onto the harvested corn stalks.

i do the opposite , set up at a feeding location before first light taking care to blend into the surroundings with my dekes within 30 yards of me and definately have some up in the trees .
