Crow hunting! Tips, tricks, tactics, stories!

Anyone ever try the quaker boy crow call they got with the slit in the mouthpiece? The more you bite down the higher the pitch, seems like a pretty descent idea. I just picked one up but haven't had the chance to try it in the field yet.

I haven't tried that. It sounds good, though.

I always use a Primos Old Crow that I got at Cabela's pretty cheap. It's a very good call.

nah one was sitting in a tree not too far from where i was hiding... had a good long look at it, it was a raven

im pretty sure the turkey vultures are protected though?

no idea about ravens though :/

Might have to try that one. I'm using an H.S. Strut Hammerin Crow Call right now, works pretty good. I find it a hell of alot louder than that quaker boy one.

Does the sound out of that Primos call carry well?

Also about ravens, they are a no go here in ON ... dunno about NB.

I don't think that ravens are mentioned anywhere.

And re: turkey vultures - I think they are indeed protected, due to the fact they are a species that is actually invading NB, I think, and therefore not around when the regs were written. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told that they are pretty new to the area. I wouldn't shoot them.

Re: the Primos Old Crow - it has great volume. FYI, you can check out reviews of a LOT of calls on the US Cabela's website.

I still say that the remmy 870 is the cure for the common crow. An owl decoy works well but nothing brings the stupid birds in like a rabbit in distress.

Used to be involved in falconry. When we looked for Goshawk nests we used an owl call. Goshawks hate owls and will come out to foght. same thing with crows. Set up your decoys along a bush fringe and camo up or hide in the bush. Play that owl tape you'l have plenty of crows. We've had many come in even when we were walking around...they ignore us because they hate owls so much
