Crow hunting...what choke/shot to use?

I would listen to the Spank.....I had crow hunters on the farm a few years back, the first day, they got 2 crows, and wounded another....with over 75 shots. I was laughing, and the guy says "Can you do better" I said next Saturday I'll have The Spank, my Ace in the hole, here to help.Spank showed up, first 25 shots, he dropped 23 crows...the guys were astounded...The SPANK is a legend...

Good times. Had alot of fun out at your place Doc!! I miss being able to pop in and check up on you or see what mischief we can come up with away from prying eyes! ;)

Yes we sure opened a few eyes and minds that day........

And I sure miss the Grackle and Starling control we used to do.........20 gauge from the back deck with 7/8 oz of 7.5's sure did a number on those pesky fellers. That one corner where they liked to hang out was a honey hole. Looked like a dead Grackle bridge across the Kubota trail a few times!! :)

I've never targeted them specifically with a shotgun, but would sure like to. A few have now fallen to the .223 and .204R though, at about 150-160 yards. The V-Max has a real "explodey" effect of course, the Sierra BlitzKings from the 204~not so much. Kills them of course, but not enough mass to open the bullet up. They are smart buggers, I will say that. I can walk out onto a hay field looking for groundhogs and crows 300+ yards away fly off. :) They learn quick.

To the experienced Ontario shotgunners~are crow decoys and mouth calls successful in getting them into shotgun range? Any time of the year, or is winter best? Need a new fall/winter/early spring pastime...have shotgun, will travel!

Just walk into any bush with a handcall and find a good clear spot you can shoot. Hide behind some trees and lay into the call. You will have a mob of crows show up. I like to wait until you have 10-15 circling right above you then unload. I have even done it with my .22lr, They will land in the trees to try and see down to the ground, Pick em off and they usually just keep coming.

I have a Johnny stewart Hammerin`crow call, Sounds very good and loud. I also use it turkey hunting as a locator, Usually gets a gobble before first light
