Crow Hunting

So you are saying that crows can identify people that have done them wrong in the past and will intentionally seek them out to cause them and their property damage and or be a general nuisance to then all the while leaving all the other humans in the area alone???

Although I would agree that crows are fairly smart for a bird..... I wouldn't quite go that far...

Seems that Epoxy is correct. I've never experienced this first hand but I recalled reading something to this effect a few years ago. I like to wear a Wendy mask whenever I hunt crows and make sure I leave a few survivors who get a good look at me ;)

Crow hunting is fun because after you shoot the first one, the rest of the murder comes to fight for scraps and it's non stop action.

They taste really good (just the breasts) I eat crow. ;)

Eating crows is bad, real bad, they are corvids and feed on anything
Rather you than me lol

We decoyed crows alot back in the UK with decoy spinning machines. Just was the best days shooting ever.
Good fun

They are very smart and from what I have read can be trained if captured in the nest. There is a video on the web with a crow and a yellow lab rolling a tennis ball back and forth to each other - pretty cool.

I have a lot of respect for the intelligence of the genus corvus.

I have seen evidence that a crow can distinguish a rifle or shotgun from a broom handle or a wooden crutch, even when you point at them and go "bang"

They use tools to some extent, and can figure out some types of gate or door latches.

They will drive a cat or dog crazy if they get the opportunity. They also are clever at stealing shiny objects if they see them laying around.

Regards, Dave.

I've never understood why people kill crows but then, I've never had them be a nuisance.
I've read that they are the 3rd most intelligent species on earth.
They will post a sentry in a treetop when their buddies are feeding on carrion out front of my house.
I've pointed guns at them, and got no reaction.

Watched a special on a nature channel on crows. You'd probably hesitate to shoot one if you knew how smart they are. Only animal besides humans to design and make their own tools. Sure, lots of other animals use tools, but crows fashion their own.
They can recognize a face many years after having a negative encounter with someone. Here it is:

Amazing stuff.

Another program I watched was about a guy in Finland ice fishing who used to leave his lines out overnight and return the
following morning to reel in his catch. One morning he found that someone had reeled his lines in and ate his fish, on the spot.
He found guts on the ice, but couldn't find who did it, till he installed a video camera to catch the culprit.
Turned out a crow had watched him long enough to figure out how to bring up the line by itself, and ate his fish...
Maybe if we got enough Wendy masks, and started harassing the crows around Ryerson campus, we'd start a trend?

Best hunted with two guys.... well concealed.... a call and a crow owl fight display or crow gathering on prey (I use a swath of Whitetail hide) will bring them in.... they will sit in the nearby trees is unsure.... blast the nearbys with a 12 gauge and poke the far ones with a 17 hmr.... great fun..

I watched a show on the knowledge network called ''A Murder of Crows Nature Documentary'' thank you Ted Nugent, had to go and watch it again.
And yes they can identify people from great distances that have done them harm..not only that they are able to articulate so to speak to other family members who the danger is . The Seattle study was impressive to me at least.
Sounds far fetched, but they are smart critters.
Had a crow try and drop a rat in front of my truck one time in the hopes I would soften it up for it.
Nope, wasnt going to happen.

Just finished watching it again myself, happy to oblige.

Small game license is still required yes?

Absolutely. It is still hunting.
First crow, maybe 2 are easy. Its there after that you begin to comprehend their intelligence.
Hunting licence is a given though, it is hunting. Small game licence, but caliber is only limited to your WMU. Where you are, any gun smaller than a .275 or a bow, but bow is pretty darn hard.
You live 20 minutes from me, if you have time I have a Foxpro and land.
