It's that time of the year between hunts and I need information on what electonic callers you crow hunters are using. We are using a cassette player ( 2nd one ) with 2 Johnny Stewart tapes ( crow owl fight and dying crow ). This works ok but I would like to hear what others are using, Foxpro 3 or 5 etc, what calls are you using and what works best for you after the first call in to call them back. We do not hunt flyways and may get 3 to 4 call backs at a stop before moving on. We make the same trip usually once a week. The crows get a bit call shy but we always call some in. Last year we shot 342 and are on our way this year but the crow numbers coming to the call are down, which I understand why. We are planning on expanding our area of hunt and a upgrade to Foxpro or a Elcheapo? I am questioning if a good electronic caller will be better or if using a cheaper caller with a good mix of crow calls will work the same without having to spend the big bucks. We are very serious at our hunts and start at dark ending at dark even during hot weather west nile fly days.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but you really peaking my curiousty. Crows are on the pest list for apple orchards and can be dealt with according for that.
Is this a controled hunt solely of West Nile Virus concerns?

No we just hunt them for pest control and help the song birds out, as for the west nile meaning, is we hunt them even when the mosquitoes are bad.

I use a Fox pro 3 works great, friend bought owl that fits on top of jackin box option that works crazzy good, they dive at owl.

I got the JITB option with my FX5 as well but I'll have to look into getting an owl decoy.:) I didn't realise on was available. Mine came with a rabbit and what I'd guess to be a racoon. I haven't tried my 'new toys' out in the field yet, but if it works anywhere as good there as it does on my yellow lab & two cats at home, it's going to be a blast. :DThe various calls have been driving our three pets nuts and one of the cats tried to make off with the rabbit decoy.

Owl decoy and a good call will invariably get lots of action. I like shotgunning them, but also use my 220 Swift to take long range potshots at the ones that perch at what they consider a safe distance. Many times it is not "safe" enough, LOL. To hit a crow with a 50 - 52 grain projectile at Swift velocities is pure rapture! Many times only the wings and a few feathers hit the ground. Regards, Eagleye.

Hello:

I have the FoxPro FX3 and I purchased the Bob Aronsohn Sound Pack (10 Crow calls) from the FoxPro web site along with it. I am new to the sport of crow hunting so I have lots to learn. My friend and I are planning on heading out this weekend to try our luck.

Thanks JP, Chizzy I heard good things about the Aronsohn Crow calls. I was out this morning and called back the crows 5 times at the same spot shooting 4, and I got shooting every time. It is a good time of the year to hunt them bacause they are building nest and are territorial.

Hello Tracker:

I hope to do as well as you did when we go out this weekend. Wish us luck!
