Crow Hunting

No season or limit on crows in Ontario. We use shotguns and no decoys as we move from location to another location spending most of the day moving around. We give them a rest when turkey season is open and while the crows are nesting. They get call shy if you hunt the same place daily or too often.

I use an FX3, different days different sounds but there are a couple that seem to work best, struggling crow, crow duet, crow fight etc.
This year we also bought Green head gear decoys, they worked great.

We have NEVER been able to call them back, once shot at their done for the day and the next trip of course we see alot of call shy birds.

crows

its actually illegal to shoot any rifle except a shotgun in the air without a backstop,as my buddy got nailed for shooting a popcan off the top of a stump.the co said it was to be placed at the bottom of the stump so it had a backstop.

ok thanks.. could you tell me where this is written??

How the heck do people shoot squirrels with a .22 then?

As for the crows - wear full camo. If they make you its game over before they'll fly into shotgun range.

Bill 68, we use the hawk and crow fight then the dying crow ( no decoys)and have called them back at the same spot 2 to as many as 5 times. We just finished building a el cheapo call and down loaded some new sounds, but with turkey season opening soon we are leaving the crows to raise the young. If the el cheapo does not work we will have to step up to a Foxpro? Do you use the Aronsohn calls? We hunt in a populated area and the use of any rifle is a common sense no no for tree shots, ground shots are ok.

Do you use the Aronsohn calls?

I have a FoxPro FX3 and purchased the additional Aronsohn crow calls; they work well for bringing in the crows to investigate my decoys. I have only gotten the birds to fly over and circle my setup; I can't get them to commit to landing amongst them.

Regards,

Chizzy

We get the best results when hunting a cedar bush near a tall dead tree or one with no leaves. They seem to like them for landing. We have been hunting the same circuit for three years and always pull in a few for good shooting. Great practice for wing shooting but I noticed this year my running shots with rifle for yotes has been off. Must be the guns fault.
