So who is getting ready for the crows this spring. I've been able to get out every 2 or 3 weeks on a saturday morning for a couple hours, each time having shot at least 1 crow...but i tell you what?!?!? the snow is starting to melt, the ground is all guey with all kinds of #### from the crows to eat (oh ya, i hunt near a sanitary landfill) and i cant wait for them to start building the nests. last year i had the best luck in the spring and cant wait for that again this year.
oh here's a good observation. crow decoys ALWAYS worked for me, but the crows can actually detect them now. i observed a number of different times crows heading right for the decoys flaring about 15 feet away...we probably over used them. that and calling, we havent been calling all winter...havent really needed to. we found that if they were coming our way and we cawed, well the changed paths, and if they werent coming our way...well sometimes they came for a look but most of the time they just ignored the calls. so now with not calling it's usually a case of "ah man 10 more feet" or bang on...and we're finding we're getting a lot more chances just knowing where the right spot to sit is and being well camoflauged!!!
